An international joint project involving Japanese (Gonzo Digimation Holding), Korean (G&G Entertainment), and American (ADV Films) companies.
Kaleido Star was a dream project from Junichi Sato who was unable to find the funds to animate the circus routines. Due to foreign funding the project was able to be realized.
In episode 5 at 5:41, when Mr. Policeman is driving Sora's father to the Kaleido Stage, the scene was originally created with the car driving on the left hand side of the road (as it would in Japan), so it had to be mirrored to fit the US location. This can be seen from the mirrored "Hotel" sign on the side of the road.
