Nintendo filed trademarks for "Endless Ocean" and "Another Code" on July 13. The trademarks were made public on July 31.
Arika developed the Endless Ocean (known in Japan as Forever Blue) Wii game, and it shipped in Japan and the West in 2007 and 2008. In the game, players become scuba divers to observe and photograph animals and undersea sights. Arika also released a sequel titled Endless Ocean 2: Adventures of the Deep (Endless Ocean: Blue World in North America and Forever Blue 2: Umi no Yobigoe in Japan).
Cing developed the Trace Memory (known as Another Code: Two Memories in Europe and Another Code: Futatsu no Kioku in Japan) Nintendo DS mystery game, and it debuted in 2005. The game spawned a sequel for the Wii titled Another Code: R – A Journey into Lost Memories (Another Code: R – Kioku No Tobira). Unlike the previous game, the sequel was released only in Japan and Europe.
