USITC Launches Investigation Into Nintendo After Patent Infringement Complaint

posted on by Rafael Antonio Pineda

The U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) announced on May 1 that it will launch an investigation into Nintendo regarding "certain portable gaming console systems with attachable handheld controllers and components thereof," specifically referring to devices with controllers that attach to two sides of an electronic device, which appears to describe Nintendo's Switch consoles and its attachable Joy-Con controllers.

The USITC declared the investigation after controller developer Gamevice filed a complaint against Nintendo on March 30, alleging that its "portable gaming console systems with attachable handheld controllers" infringes on a Gamevice patent. The complaint requested that the U.S. International Trade Commission issue a limited exclusion order and cease and desist order to Nintendo.
