Haim Saban: Possible 6-Movie Arc Planned for Power Rangers
posted on by Karen Ressler
Saban Entertainment founder Haim Saban said in an interview with Variety on Wednesday that there is a "six-movie story arc" planned for the Power Rangers reboot. "If this film is as successful as I hope on March 24, on March 25 we'll have the first story meeting for Movie No. 2," Saban said.
The film's director Dean Isrealite confirmed the plan with Entertainment Weekly on Friday. "It is true that the Saban team, even before I came on to this project, had a document that laid out six movies, so Haim isn't just saying that flippantly," Israelite said. However, he also mentioned that he was focused on getting the first film right, so the team has "only gotten kind of into the second one" in discussions.
Israelite also mentioned that he thinks there is enough material for more films in the same universe, such as a prequel about Zordon and Rita, though he stressed that he was speaking as himself and not as a representative of Saban. Israelite said it was still up in the air whether or not he will direct any future films, but he would love to return.
Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer stated last May that he could "see doing five or six or seven" Power Rangers films.
The new Power Rangers film opened on Friday.
