posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Lionsgate announced that the new Power Rangers live-action film will debut in theaters on July 22, 2016. Writers Ashley Miller and Zack Stentz are penning the script. The two writers previously wrote the X-Men: First Class and Thor films. Star Trek and Transformers writer Roberto Orci is also signing on as executive producer.
The Power Rangers franchise previously inspired two live-action films from 20th Century Fox: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie opened in theaters in 1995 and Turbo: A Power Rangers Movie opened in theaters in 1997.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers and the subsequent Power Rangers series use recut footage from the Japanese Super Sentai franchise. Mighty Morphin Power Rangers primarily used footage from Kyōryū Sentai Zyuranger, and the currently running series, Power Rangers Super Megaforce, uses footage from Tensō Sentai Goseiger and Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger.
