Good, I really want to see Negima, especially after the mangaka went back and redid all this stuff for the DVD releases. Fafner... I'm not too crazy about.

Domain names bear the same weight as trade marks. So consider the old fashioned manuever of Funimation and ADV registering trademarks for these two show names. Yes, they would need to hold the license to the actual works.

...what? Where did you hear that? Companies get the domains for shows they don't have all the time. A lot of times when a show is finally announced as licensed it's licensed by a different company then the one that owns the domain.

Two things to remember:

1) FUNimation, in the past, has registered domain names for titles they do not own, for other reasons.

2) Geneon, I believe, has never registered a domain name for a title they did not own.

So, legalities or not, there are some compelling facts. Here's another. Geneon plans to release the Fafner OST in a few months. While Geneon has obviously licensed soundtracks for titles they do not own (Noir, Azumanga Daioh, RahXephon), I don't believe they've ever licensed and set a release date for a soundtrack in advance for a thus-far unlicensed title that they do not own.

I'm not sure why you believe that but it's not true. But, even if you did equate registering a domain with a trademark, it would fall under the "intent to use" category. Meaning that you would not have to have the license, but would, within a period of time, have to legally use the trademark.

Registering a domain means only two things that a company like funi,ADV etc are interested in a series they want to license or that they already have the series and are setting up shop for that domain for the series. However it mostly doesn't mean the series is going to be license by that particular company for example Funi Put up the domain Gantz then out of the blue adv puts it up then bam ADV gets the rights, things like this go beyond domain.

Well, I think that this means Fafner is definetly licensed by geneon and Negima...well, I won't be surprised if Funi get it. I'm quite interested to see the DVD versions actually...
