Lol it's a little corny. On another note did anyone else mistake the thumbnail for saying "Pain on"..? Smile Not a bad advertisement though, I'm sure it will pay off in the long run for Nintendo.

Fantastic commercial. Definitely plays on the hype and nostalgia that older players feel.

I found the ad to be pretty boring. Virtually all I got from it is a reminder of Pokémon's 20th anniversary.

Has potential but the CGI doesn't work. Not even a little bit.

I think he means something at around this level:

Whereas the CGI in this ad just looks like PS2

Then for the most part it worked Wink But I think they also attempted to arise a sense of fascination in to-be fans and it sort of fell flat. Though with that much pressure (it's Super Bowl ad) it's not a surprise it crushed under the weight.

Has Pokemon ever had better CGI? I don't ever remember it improving past the N64 level except by growing some antialiasing.

To be honest I found the Dragon Ball Z Ford commercials to be much more entertaining than this. Confused

Not surprised they went with this approach since this is a Super Bowl commercial, and they spent millions on it, so I'm impressed with what they did produce. I miss the days when you had to watch the broadcast itself to first see these commercials.

At least I thought the "be the best there ever was" line was a great throwback to the classic anime theme, but that's the only bit of nostalgia this really has.

There's actually tons of little Easter Eggs in there, that's just the most obvious. The official twitter feed was pointing out a bunch of them yesterday.
*When the kid is training in the mountains, the TV shot has a poster for HM03 Surf under it
*The chess pieces had Nidoking and Nidoqueen
*Two of the football players standing next to each other had the numbers "19" and "96" (there's also a "20", but I didn't catch a shot of him next to "16", so it doesn't count)
*The football helmets have the symbol for the Volcano Badge on them

I'm sure there's more, but those are the ones they specifically tweeted out.

For me, I love the CM, and it brought tears to my eyes. Taking something as simple as Pokemon, and using it to inspire all of the other things that you can do, all the other ways that you can "be the very best," was great.

That looked good to me, including the CG.
I hope that I catch it during the game because I would really like to see it in HD on a bigger, better screen.

Why do they do these nowadays, releasing the commercials even before the Super Bowl

Makes it less of an event
