On Saturday when many of the magazines were released, the Animate Ikebukuro Twitter account mentioned that people were lined up in the morning before opening for the magazines! They also limited each person to 3 copies. Crazyyyyyyyy!! I'd definitely like to get my hands on a copy of Animage.

I'm seriously starting to wonder if they'll eventually do more Osomatsu after the second season is over. Demand in Japan and internationally has been surprisingly substantial, after all...

Well, the first BD/DVD comes out this month so we'll see, though vol.1 includes a lottery application for an event so I'm not sure if it'll be an accurate gauge for how the series will sell overall. Still, the disc pre-order ranking at Animate is entirely dominated by Osomatsu san so things are looking good. |

I would not have guessed that the breakout anime of Fall 2015 would be a sequel to a 54 year old gag manga, and yet here we are. Osomatsu-San is a fantastic comedy, and I'm really happy to see how well it's doing. It seems to have developed quite a fandom in the west, too.
Given that this is Pierrot we're talking about, I wouldn't be surprised if they just bring this back as a perpetual series (a la Gintama and Naruto, which they also produce.) |

I've been trying to order the Pash! January issue for a long time but it's always sold out on Amazon. I have to keep trying...

Here's hoping all of this success keeps the series going long term wise, fine with them taking breaks.

Sometimes, Japan's taste differ from otaku. Ex: Thermae Romae. |

That's the thing, though. Osomatsu-san is outrageously popular with otaku - and female otaku in particular. (I have no idea how its performing with the general population though) I don't know if anyone could have predicted that. But the fanart is copious and constant, it's the current Namja town event (something generally reserved for 'thing popular with female otaku right now whether it was originally animed at them or not ie Kuroko no Basket, DanganRonpa, Yowamushi Pedal) and I feel like every time I refresh amiami there's more merchandise. I dont think any of this is a bad thing, just surprising. |

I would not have guessed it, until I randomly searched for "osomatsu-san" on Tumblr and got a a LOT of content. Lots of fanart (both eastern and western) and a ton of shipping (mostly among the six brothers, but for some reason Karamatsu/Chibita is also a popular pairing.) Remember how the (now-banned) pilot episode was a parody of fujoshi shows? Well, the normal demographic for that genre LOVED that parody. They came for that, and stuck around to find that the series is a lot of fun (and the brothers are different and quirky enough that you can have faves even when they're not drawn all bishonen style.) |

Can't really say they "came for that" since no one knew the first episode was going to turn out that way. Hype after the first episode definitely helped though. There are plenty of guys watching the series, including Durarara!!/Baccano! author Narita sensei who sometimes tweets during the show. |
