"We feel that 2005 is the right year to start discussing hentai and adult film in a more positive light." said Project Manager Maria Lujuria. "For too long, hentai has been viewed as something only depraved individuals would watch. In reality, there are a large number of fans who like both hentai and adult films. Many are just like you and me, they enjoy adult material, but are afraid to say so because of the negative connotation. The goal of AXA is to change the negative perception of this fascinating form of media, and help readers to make discerning choices, based upon their interests."
...WOW. OK, I hope that this doesn't bring up the whole "all anime is hentai" thingy... I wouldn't know; I'm underage to watch such films. |

The first person who exclaims "Where do I sign up?!" for no good reason gets kicked in the crotch.
This is nice, I guess.... |

Maybe they might get enough traffic to actually merit an actual *web designer*.
Or not. |

Well, some of us who are old enough don't watch it anyway. It's really not worth it |

If you don't watch it then how would you know ? Besides, I think hentai is more targeted at guys than girls. I think it's wrong to dismiss all of hentai. Some of it might worth watching (for some number of people) and some isn't. I think there's a bigger market for hentai than you realize. Now, where do I sign up ? Lesson to all you n00bs to the forum: Do post on the spur of the moment, otherwise, knuckleheads like Seir and Proman here come at you like there's no tommorow.
But in all seriousness, Proman is probably right. There are probably some hentai titles worth watching. If I were picking a hentai title (which would occur the day after I marathon DearS, Chobits, and Steel Angel Kurumi back-to-back*) I would try and find an anime that didn't seem to follow a "F#$%^ First Philosophy." In other words, a show that has more plot and just happens to have people doing each other as an aside. A thinking-man's hentai, so to speak. Proman's also probably right in that there's a bigger crowd for hentai that we realize. Unfortunately, I think we realize who's in this crowd and why it's bigger. *-which ain't gonna happen |

It would be nice if someone would tackle the faulty use of 'hentai' once and for all, but unfortunately, it's not Miss Lujuria. Man, how long are we going to look like total asses to the Japanese when it comes to something as simple as plain terminology? I shiver slightly at the thought of the 'foreigner friendly' sign I saw at the K-books in Den-Den Machi, Osaka...

Erm...I could be wrong on this, but isn't yaoi considered hentai? If that's the case than I really think guys and girls have an equal share in the matter. |

I think that the concept behind the magazine is an admirable one. But let's hope they stick to it and don't let the magazine degenerate into nothing more than pages filled with breast-baring anime girls, each trying to outdo the other. I also doubt that this project will make much headway into changing people's perceptions of hentai. And I'm also wondering if there will be any backlash from this venture. I can already hear some conservatists clearing their throats.

Probably not a lot of conservatists will even care. They are too busy targeting American animation rather than anime. |

While I think the new project is admirable, I do have strong doubts, especially since it's being overseen by DVD Vision Japan. The website is very amateurish, poorly designed, and the reviews they have usually consist of "haha this has boobs, it's so awesome!!!!!" In fact, the whole website tries hard to accomplish a lot of things (cosplay photos, reviews, etc), but many of them are just *not* well done.
Besides, there's *already* a site that has hentai reviews.... It's called Anime on DVD. I don't think DVJ is the right site to tackle such a project... especially considering how their site is run now. |
