For more than 20 years, Beckett has dominated the market for print and interactive collectible card guides, both in sports-oriented sectors including baseball, football, basketball, hockey, and stock car racing, as well as the anime area of entertainment such as Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh.

Great to know that anime = Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh. Didn't they have some better examples than that?

More importantly, why would someone want to acquire a company like Beckett?

By a whole range of standards, such as, for example, viewership and revenue, Pokemon and Yugioh *are* far more representative of 'anime' than, say, Paranoia Agent, or Mezzo, or Samurai Champloo. An utter majority of Japanese animation are commodity products that exist solely to sell merchandise. Which in no way means you can't like them - just means that you really should know what it is you're looking at and be aware of the limitations and limits the medium sets for itself.

And investors, especially a private equity investor like Spectrum, do not particularly care for how the companies they invest in generate profit. Beckett clearly does generate profit, and that's all Spectrum (and Apprise Media) want to know.

All we ever pay attention to is the anime side of their publishing, but their better known as the biggest name in sports collectibles. Or atleast they used to be, I got out of sports card collecting back in early 90's or so so I don't know what their standards are like know, but I imagine they haven't changed too much in that aspect.

And surely this will result in a much more efficient, better-focused company. Just like all the other acqusitions in which that happened, like...ummmm.......hmm.
