The OP is probably one of the best of the season, both the animation style and song are great. In compensation, I can't even remember what the ED's like right now.
I agree that the second episode is the weakest one and almost fully fanservice, but I at least give the series a little credit for being tongue-in-cheek about it. It knows full well the trope it's using and even foreshadows it, only to then throw it on our faces with no shame.

It annoys me that they went full comedy for Alice's introduction in episode 3 instead of having Ikki and Stella acknowledge her like in the novel and manga.
But hey, at least the action scenes still look great! I'm really excited to see Kirito be a complete and unrepentant jerk. It also looks like Stella's bet with Kirihara got cut, which is good; it added unnecessary stakes to an already emotionally fraught battle.

It's also worth nothing that Touyama Nao lends or voice in both Chivalry and Asterisk, adding an extra layer of confusion between them.
Although the entanglement between these two series should open up soon; Asterisk leans more towards the harem and plotline development side, while Chivalry focuses more on romance. Personally I've enjoyed watching both, even though neither win awards for originality. There's no need to constantly compare the two.

Well, different standards. For em, this is just another lame and boring Ln adaption with really bland and cartoonish characters that seem to be walking tropes to the point of parody instead of actually believable personae.

This is an interesting way for society to handle people with super powers. Send them all to gladiator school in their teens and let them maim and kill each other before they are tempted to use their strength for their own purposes. As part of the bargain you get a worldwide sport that can be used to entertain the rest of the population. By making this a prestige event you actively attract anyone who has powers. The survivors get to think they have done something great and go home to breed the next generation of fighters.
On the fanservice front, I’ll give this show points. Compared to similar shows Stella clearly has the most ogle worthy underwear.

I'm happy the reviews are finally up.
It's eerie though, since it looks like next week on Saturday that the 4th episode will be the deciding point for both Asterisk and Rakudai. I already know the material and speculated where the divergent point/1st volume ends of the show. I'm no literary purist but some bits I wish they expanded upon but the anime original content is very welcome. I think an anime does indeed need to stand on it's own.
I'm very excited and happy about next week though. I'm sure Rebecca will hopefully be just as satisfied.

Despite almost the run-of-the-mill start, there were some minor details that were unique takes on the all-too-familiar introductory presentation (most notably Kurogane Ikki's willing to "level the playing field" by striping as well ). On the artistic side, the models look pretty much average, and the color palette looks, at times, slightly bland (but in other scenes it looks very vibrant). On the technical side, however, I think that the latter half of episode #3, especially when the counterattack begins, is where the show really shined. CG usage in anime doesn't have the best track record, but I'll be damned if that wasn't a well-executed sequence. If the show is going to "cruise at lower speeds," and "floor it" on when it counts, then we might be in for a thrilling ride
My biggest fear at the moment, however, is since this show is based off an on-going material, this adaptation will try to end thing in an Anime Original way, that (more often than not) will cause it to stumble and end in a sour note.
Also, Kirihara Shizuya Next episode. Look forward for it.

I think that this will only cover up to parts of the 2nd volume. If it was a 24-episode series, then they could get to the 3rd volume where Stella askes Ikki to bang her but he doesn't.
{Fixed 1st spoiler tag. ~nobahn}

That could happen, but LN adaptions don't do that too often. I mean they want you to go buy the LNs to see how it ends.

So you are wrong. Person from OP etc. is from third volume. End of third volume is a good place to end. So 3 volumes for 12 episodes.

Might want to fix the spoiler tags. The spoiler is as naked as Stella was when Ikki walked in on her in the first ep
Edit: So close. Get rid of the backslash in the first one

Compared to other light novels of these kind, it has a surprisingly strong focus on the romance. Back then, when I've read the first volume of the light novel, I was really surprised. It's a good thing in my eyes.
I'm looking forward how they'll continue with this show.
Anyways, the pacing is pretty good for it. 4 episodes per volume is still a great formula for adaptations.

This is a great summary of the series. I personally enjoy it more than some of the other series that have released this season (I like this sort of setting, and the fact that, while undoubtedly cookie cutter, the protagonist isn't emotionless).
It's definitely the best of the series in this "mystic high school" format, only due to Anti Magic's pacing issues (I really like the source material for that one) and is definitely a plus due to the more limited harem elements to the characters (it's still there, but nowhere near the level of others that released earlier this year, or in previous years).
Three episodes in, I'm still enjoying it and look forward to these reviews. They're quite fair and very enjoyable to read.
