Cool opening. Also, I hate lights.

I watched 3 episodes of the italian version. It's OK... I guess. If you're not a fan of Lupin to begin with, it has little to offer.

That is a sexy opening right there. It kind of reminded me of Cowboy Bebop a little. Looking forward to seeing how this series turns out.

They had me until the ugly CG cars. I hope they don't look that bad in the actual show. EDIT looks like they're not as bad in the pv.

Looks and sounds amazing. Definitely looking forward to a new shiny Lupin III. I'm impressed with the coloring in particular. It is rather reminiscent of the coloring back from cel animation rather than the bright and solid colors of more modern digital animation. Bravo to the creators for this OP at least.

Looks like a lot of fun. I hope Funimation is able to license this series.

Before seeing the opening clip in this article, I had only seen/heard the television series theme live at Animax Musix 2014 Yokohama as the ending song: ルパン三世のテーマ / 出演者全員 |

The theme's really old. It's been around since the second series (which I think was in 1979 but i could be wrong), and has gone through many rearrangements. There's three versions from the original series, two main ones and four one-offs for the tv specials, and that's not counting all the film versions. These three are my favourite: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JbRN7iPnAi8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unKAK1BMXEo https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eGlPD3Lg-w |

I certainly hope somebody licenses it, but I wouldn't necessarily count on Funimation doing so. They passed on the Jigen movie and I don't think The Woman Called Fujiko Mine sold very well for them. I'd wager that Discotek will get it. Funimation could certainly give it more exposure. I don't care for Sonny Strait's Lupin, however. |

Now this is a version I can get behind, very classy. I just wish they hadn't introduced that Rebecca character, she seems kind of distracting/annoying. Hopefully the show will turn out good though, always nice to see more Lupin.

That's a gorgeous OP. Also, love the shot of the group at the end. |

Ah, it feels good to hear that opening I don't have a problem with the cg cars, all the animation work looks competent to me, if not as stylish and unique as Woman Called Fujiko Mine. I will say this, though: is it me, or did we see Jigen's eyes way more than usual in that pv? I'm so used to that hat being fused over his eyes that I did a double take
Not sure how I feel about the inclusion of Rebecca as a character. She looks like she could be either great fun or super annoying. Here's hoping she's the former. Glad to see Fujiko and Zenigata, as well. It would be great if Funimation could get this, as they did a fantastic job dubbing Fujiko Mine, but Discotek has also proven to be exceedingly proficient at putting out Lupin releases, so I'd be happy with them as well (especially if they dubbed it). I'm still salivating over their Cagliostro release, and find myself wishing they'd gotten the rest of Miyazaki's catalogue (their special features on that disc trump Disney's any day). This really better be picked up for streaming, is all I can say. |
