I dunno. Until I see some production notes or at the very least a link on IMDB, I'm still considering this a rumor.

It's been reported in Variety and over the AP, amongst other legit news sources, it's definitely not a rumour. Since it's just been officially announced and the film isn't even in pre-production yet, so of course there aren't going to be any production notes.
Also, the IMDB is filled with outfounded rumours, and their fact-checking has been publically shown as being notoriously inept. Just ask Kevin Kline about his IMDB bio. Plus, there are movies and TV shows, Donnie Yen's [b]Kung Fu Master[b] (which I've got in my DVD player at the moment) for example, that aren't listed on the IMDB and there are movies listed on the IMDB that don't exist and never have.

Seeing as I've never been to a 3d moving in my whole life, this should be a fun experience.

Yep, this movie has been on Cameron's to do list for a number of years, its good to see he is finally getting to it. In a recent interview, he talked a little bit about the Battle Angel movie too.
I can't wait ^^, I am a long time Battle Angel/Gunnm fan. I heard Cameron also has the rights to the anime OVA, which was discontinued by ADV a few years ago, if he indeed does, there should be a special edition DvD release or something.

Note to Cameron - Keep Cyborg Mermaid as the theme music.
I do honestly think this could be a good movie. Cameron's not known for producing crap. Tripe, but not crap. This falls under the same category as the rumored Ridley Scott directed live-action Halo movie.
Hope that one happens too.

No, it doesen't. Scott declined the offer a while ago (he might want to reconsider it after the success of Halo 2). The whole rumor stared when Bungie said, something among the lines of "There won't be a Halo movie unless it's directed by Ridley Scott".
One the other hand, "Battle Angel" movie is very real.

Wow. A big budget 3D movie based on a cool cyberpunk manga? Where do I get tickets now?
Acutlaly, this could turn out bad, but it could also turn out really &*#$ing awesome. We shall see. It's nice to see someone like Cameron, who made one of the highest grossing (though perosnally I think overrated) movies ever, turn his eye to a manga like Alita. Maybe Cameron can return to his SF roots too. Plus I love cyberpunk. I really need ot check out the Alita manga. From what I hear from my roomate who loves it, it sounds awesome.

One thing I hope doesn't happen is that Cameron will create shots specifically to make use of the 3D glasses, like what was done with the horrible "Spy Kids 3D" movie.
Cameron: "Oh, this scene has fighting. I think I'll make the evil dude's arm swing out towards the audience in slow-motion. It looks stupid in 2D, but it'll be great - for a moment - in 3D!"
Other than that, this project looks to be in good hands. After all, Cameron has done quite well in sci-fi. Hopefully this will not only bring him back into what he does best ("Titanic" was painfully overrated) but also give anime and manga more mainstream exposure.

Proman: It's real in the sense that it's been confirmed. Now whether it's real in the sense that it's actually going to happen is another story. The only film that's taken longer than GunM to happen is Terminator 2. And Cameron at least had the excuse of not being famous or influential enough back then to make it happen.

Wouldn't that be a "or" instead of a "of"?

Cameron better do a great job on this film. Unless he wants a pack of ravanous Otaku behind his back .
I think he'll do a good job. With the development of alot of cutting edge technology I think it's about time someone put battle angel out of the junk yard.

Cameron has more class than that; his movies don't need to rely on cheap gimmicks. One thing that has me a little worried is having the main character be computer generated. I don't like the idea of real actors being replaced by fake ones. It is fine for secondary characters like Gollum or Jar-Jar (no angry protests please ), but stariing roles is a different matter. Although, since it is being done by Cameron I am keeping an open mind about it.
