I was kinda expecting a simultaneous/really close release date after playing through the demo, the full English dub made me kinda hopeful. Glad to see that's what'll happen.

I think you should start with the first one. It's still really fun to play! You can get it on PSP, iOS, Android, or even Windows Phone Very Happy

Start with X and then XIII and VI. You can safely ignore the rest.

13 is almost universally regarded as the worst FF game ever made. The fact that you put it in the same category as 10 and 6 is mind boggling.

Every main entry in the franchise is standalone. You could really start anywhere. Just find one that looks interesting to you, and if that one doesn't end up gripping you, there's always another that's a little different.

I have to second this. Read a bit about the gameplay and plot of each game, and just pick what sounds good. The worst thing you can do is listen to the fans, as they tend to massively oversell which games they see as the best. VI was so oversold for me that, by the time I played it, I couldn't enjoy it because my expectations had been set so high. I doubt there's much anything that could've met the gigantic expectations I had for that game. Just ignore most of what the fans say, and you'll be fine.

You're going to get a LOT of people telling you 'this game is the best, ignore this and this'. Final Fantasy games have a very, very divisive fanbase. If I were you I'd just watch some gameplay videos of the first portions of each game and make your own decisions as to what interests you. Enjoyment of Final Fantasy games varies based on how well you like the story, characters, battle system, music, etc.

In the most general terms though, you can safely ignore I-V at first. The 'modern' era of Final Fantasy (less emphasis on dungeon grinding, more on story & characters) began with VI. VI is a great place to start, many consider it the best of the series. A lot of it depends on what you own though. PS3, PSP & PC are the best ways to play as many of these as you can... but you'd need a PS2 for XII.

TL;DR

Usually considered the best - > VI,VII,IX,X

Divisive (Some love, some hate) - > V, VIII, XII

Univerasally disliked - > XIII (and spinoffs), X-2, II

It's been a while since I've ever seen a title being debuted worldwide since Pokémon X and Y. Here's hoping we'll see more titles getting this treatment.

"After 2015, but before 2017."

So....2016? Why not just say that. Really odd wording.
