I just saw the official trailer posted in the article and while watching it kept thinking of Hibike! This makes me think that probably the reason the first BD release of Hibike! didn't do so well is because it has to compete with Love Live!

The LL movie has nothing to do with how Hibike ended up selling. Movie tickets are not as expensive as BD volumes, so i'm sure if a fan actually intended to buy Hibike, they would've done so, provided there wasn't another anime that they felt was more enjoyable and rewatchable than Hibike. And i'm sure you've seen how the recent KyoAni anime has sold (excluding the ones obviously aimed at female fans). Hibike is actually doing much better (except for Chu2koi), although it is still holding very well on Amazon. It is still getting restocked every now and then on Amazon, so the sales of Vol.1 is surely not the end. |

No matter how many times I watch it, I can't help laughing at how awful the CGI looks. Can hardly believe that people watch this let alone it made 11 million, but the mobage aspect of the franchise makes it a bit more understandable as they have massive reach in Japan.

The computer graphics of that scene is subpar but the song is super-great, so I think that compensates for that.

It's good that Japanese fans are not so shallow as to look at what to buy from just one criteria point. They don't just look at story, or artwork, or animation, or music, etc, alone as is common in the Western community, they look at the whole picture. The CGI use in LL is an issue for some, but obviously for a large majority of fans it is hardly noticeable considering how enjoyable the rest of the series is. Anime is afterall an entertainment medium, so if people can't understand that anime just needs to be enjoyable and rewatchable for someone to spend money on it, then you are participating in the wrong hobby. |

True. I just noticed that both franchises share some of the same ideas. |

Hibike is co-produced by Lantis which also co-produces Love Live. They have absolutely nothing to gain from competing with one of their own productions. They also produce the music for both series so again they'd want to see both be successful in that regard. The problem with Hibike's first BD is that it was a late adoption that only started taking off late in the shows run as it got more popular and really is just not that much of a be all end all factor that people seem to think it is. |

I don't get how it is still so bad. The show is so popular, they have to have a pretty big budget to work with. It should at /least/ be on Aikatsu!'s level. |

The CGI is just a small part of the show. It's not even that horrible. Everything else looks amazing, and the franchise was crazy popular before its mobage game. |

Aikatsu looks way more like something out of a video game and not as well integrated to me. Love Live only really uses the CGI for the all group shots where they want things to synchronize perfectly, but I don't even really notice it anymore with the second season outside of the intro. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2b8yyVczZ10 Can people honestly look at this video and tell me they can pick out all the CGI moments present and argue specifically why they look bad as I'm kind of curious. |

I have to agree with this statement. True the CGI was a bit weird in some areas but the rest of the series more than made up for it. Enough so that I bought the bluray set after just three episodes which is extremely rare for me. |

Angelic Angel is a wonderful song so I am not surprised it sold well. I am not as keem on SUNNY DAY SONG so I wonder if that will sell as well? It hasn't been used in all the adverts for the movie so it has had less time to get stuck in peoples' heads as well.

I think it'll do fine. This was the 2015 Top 100 Amazon Yearly Ranking for Music, 2 days (June 29) before Angelic Angel was released... 尼年間 21→21 μ's(ベスト2)【通常】 23→23 BUMP【初回A】 24→24 BUMP【初回B】 34→34 西沢 35→35 AKINO 41→41 UVER 42→42 モバマス(Star) 49→49 ユニゾン【通常】 53→53 μ's(ベスト2)【豪華】 63↑58 μ's(Angel) 60↓62 ユニゾン【初回】 62↓63 ももクロ【Z盤】 72→72 ももクロ【F盤】 76→76 ClariS 78→78 ポルノ 83→83 響 86→86 春香 86→86 サンホラ 89→89 V6 90→90 真 100↑91 μ's(サニデイ) 91↓92 μ's(ミミミ) 圏外↑94 μ's(僕光) This is what it was yesterday (2 days before SUNNY DAY SONG is released). It is getting closer to Angelic Angel, and is above the Idolmaster Cinderalla Girls OP "Star" (which had an event ticket bundled on it), which sold 64K+. Since Angelic Angel is still accumulating sales for its 2nd week, SUNNY DAY SONG won't pass it on the Yearly list, but it should get close to it by the end of this week in time for the Tuesday sales numbers.

99% of the time, if it's zoomed out view of the whole stage then it's CGI. If it's zoomed in then it's not. It looks bad because the girls all look like robots in impossible synchronization. It takes away the humanity of the characters and replaces them with robots. There is no flair, just a bland Miku Miku Dance-esque rote routine to be performed without any soul or personality. The sad thing is that they don't even need to do this. Love Live makes a ton of money that they could simply do the entire routing by hand, and yet they can't even do that. It's baffling to be honest. |
