Not only is this a new version of Sherlock Holmes (I call Steampunk Holmes) we also get his partner, a Magical Girl Sidekick named Watson. I wish I was making that up.

They did but Holmes' distraction of choice was cocaine (although like a lot of famous things about the character it was only in one story) dissolved in some liquid and injected. Like opium it was legal at the time.

I don't know what they were saying in that video, but do they explain why Sherlock likes to pose dramatically and hammily?

It varies, to be honest, but they certainly have enough dramatic poses to go around.
