I think of Inuyasha with such a title. The dog part is why I might read this if I can find the scans.

The dog is barely present after a certain point. It's mostly about the old man being awesome. |

If he has the story all planned out that is a definite plus point in my books. I much prefer that method over the "keep going as long as you can to get more money" method. Will consider getting the series when Kodansha USA releases it if reviews are positive.

the dog here is less important than the dog in gantz.

Even if the dog is minor, being a dog person is why I would get this series.

Not surprised. Who'd want a seinen version of Pixar's Up?

Well, I figured Cybergeezer wouldn't be long for this world.

I find it curious as to why he this manga would need at very least 190,000 volumes sold to turn profit? I'm pretty sure series with less volumes are already turning a profit.. Heck, MOST series won't reach 100,000 sales and they must turn a profit (otherwise they'd just cancel them)
Has anyone read this and tell me why does Oku think this series would need 190,000 per volume to be profitable? |

He's come a long way from HEN (wow nostalgia).
Maybe Hiroya Oku means profitable for him personally after being paid from Kodansha - for the time, materials, utilities, labor costs for assistants, etc. |

authors earn only 10% of the sales price of manga books; Oku Sensei probably has a big team of assistants therefore high production costs.

I wonder how much success this will have for him compared to Gantz.

I started reading the manga yesterday after reading this article, all I can say it's I'm amazed of the enormous quality the manga has, no wonder why they need to sell 190 000 copies to turn it profitable since the art and the composition requires too much effort. The story is great and uncommon. Please check it out if you like seinen manga and you'll understand what I mean. Hiroya Oku should draw more manga like this since it seems to be what he's best at. Gantz ran for too long and in the end everything was a mess. This method of planning a manga from it's beginning to it's end is definitely the best.

The cost aspect is interesting as that was the reason why he killed 01 (OKU Hiroya) (5/10) / Me-Teru no Kimochi (4/10).
Here is my MU review: Looking good, at least for now (8/10) The first Volume is very interesting if highly strange. I dislike Hiroya´s mangas that aren´t called Gantz so i was cautious at first but maybe he will finally become a rounded author. The theme covered here like youth delinquency and hobo hunting are of course familiar but all i saw is very intriguing. The only thing that worries me is the giant self praise the author gives himself at the end of the first Volume. This new work is a good step forward overall and the art is nice as always. I hope he Oku decides this time to actually finish his work. Only time will tell.I am intrigued in hope you are too. Also kudos for the ageing leading man. Finally something somewhat fresh on the main character front. Update: This is now a Hiroya manga alright. So expect hardcore normal and sexual violence and less Slice of Life. Still evaluating. |
