The last Gundam I truly enjoyed was AGE. I really don't want to keep going back to UC, at least not the main storyline between original and Unicorn. Hell, I'd like that SEED movie we were supposed to have gotten years ago be made.
EDIT: For me, the only thing that can keep UC interesting is if they bridge the gap between Unicorn and F91 and from F91 to Victory.

The development of Zeon's first mobile suits (the Zakus!), Casval and Real!Char (suspiciously identical stranger), more Ramba Ral, and... oh goodness, little Amuro!
The CG still looks... ehhhh, but I'm going to rent the fug out of this.

Thankfully they have learned not to follow in the horrible footsteps of AGE. Unicorn and The Origin is the best Gundam in many years and its because UC is where Gundam is at its best. SEED is forgotten, so why would there be movie? UC will never be forgotten so get used to it.

Nah, Unicorn was pretentious boring babble that die hard UC fans, most of which are nostalgic geeks or elitists, jerk off to for no real reason except for the fact that it's UC, the original, and original is the best no matter what and liking the original makes one a true fan, that's the geek fandom logic -.-'. It really added nothing to the UC universe, and I can't say Reconguista is any more important to it. At least Stardust Memory shows the creation of the Titans, and The 08th MS Team shows the OYW from different perspectives of feddy soldiers, and War in the Pocket shows it from a civillain perspective, but Unicorn was just so arbitrary that it resorted to forcing itself into being canon by putting some cameos here and there. I didn't think for one second that Mineva Zabi would be doing what she was doing in the OVA.
Whatever failings AGE supposedly had, at least it made sense in the end but fans put forth unrealistic standards and expectations that would be impossible even for previous Gundam series to meet because this joke of a fandom decided from the start that they hated and wanted to make sure it failed for no reason except that it seemed to be for the younger demographic. Throughout AGE's run, everyone was going online acting like they're psychics and made predictions, saying stupid sh*t like 'IF THEY DO THIS, IT'S RUINED FOREVER!!', all assumptions of that nature were false, they didn't turn the Diva into a giant MS, they didn't put aliens in the story, and to this day, there are still people that claim it had aliens in the story, they didn't make the Gundam 'evolve' like it was a Pokemon and it reshaped itself and grew.
Reconguista on the other hand is getting it's d*ck sucked by UC purists even though no one seems to understand what he crap is going on. I'm 12 episode in and I keep thinking 'Why the hell is he/she doing that?' 'Wait? Aren't they enemies?', 'Why are they letting him pilot the Gundam?!' 'Did they just make that leopard fall on that snake and put funny faces on them?!' But because it's Tomino coming back to do Gundam, a lot of people decided it was gonna be good.

SEED is still fairly popular in Japan. There's probably still a chance for them to make that SEED movie for those fans. Though I wouldn't be interested in it, personally, because I consider CE era Gundam a soulless, lifeless UC copy.
UC will always be the lifeblood of the Gundam franchise, and Unicorn's popularity proved continuing to make anime in that universe was profitable, thus the animated The Origin.
It would be nice to get more than just the back story, though. A whole TV series would be fantastic. But the point is obviously that this material from Yas' manga has never been animated before, so that takes priority.
If they're going to make another AU, I'd like to see a sequel to G Gundam, but Imagawa doesn't do sequels, as we all know and mourn from Giant Robo and Shin Mazinger.

What volume was Zeon and Astraia's first meeting depicted in? Because if it was the latest volume they might be trying to incorporate some of those side stories into the main narrative, which is interesting.
Also, will Tanaka still be playing Char or will his voice have broken by now?

Was there actually a story about the first time they met?
I think in Vol. 5 (english version) Astraia briefly reminisces about the time she first met Zeon, but that was just a few panels. Then in Vol. 6 she and Ms. Hamon reminisce about the past, but again its only a few panels.

The 12th and final Aizoban contains a bunch of side stories that Yasuhiko did and one of them is Casval 0057. I've never read it but I think it's supposed to detail how Char's parents met or something.

While I do appreciate the OVA's -- I want a proper gundam anime series. Like an episodic show. That built fighters nonsense does not count. Can we have a crossbone anime...?

They might be using The Origin OVA to test the waters for a 0079 remake.
Other than that, there's always G no Reco

Unlikely, but if your lucky Vertical might license the Crossbone manga.

The first episode of Origin has a lot of political statements on war and arming up the military and building up the military, which are particularly relevant in regards to Japanese politics at the moment.

If you think Gundam fandom is bad now, you should have been around the early 2000s. I've been into Gundam and been involved within the fanbase for a LONG time, and back in the early 2000s it was a Civil War type mentality within the fanbase. You were either into UC Gundam or AU Gundam. There wasn't no middle ground. Granted at this time there was only Wing and G as the AU series, but it was nasty and there was a lot of hurt feelings.
What people fail to realize then and still now is that ALL Gundam series should be supported because the makeup of Gundam in NA is very fragile right now. Turn A is currently being offered by Right Stuf and IF it fails and doesn't sell well, then what's going to happen? No Victory, Gundam X, AGE, etc. Or possible re-pressings of Wing, SEED, 00, etc. No business will want to take on releasing Gundam here in NA. It's something to think about if you truly care about getting Gundam released in NA.
Back onto your points about Unicorn. Unicorn was a highly received series internationally. It did excellent in Japan and did very well over here in the States. The Blu Rays all sold out, and the DVDs were picked up and sold well as well. Meaning people (not just UC "fanboys/girls") bought and supported the series. The series overall is very enjoyable, even though it has a very disappointing ending. Most UC Gundam fans I've talked to expressed the same opinions as me on the subject, and were also disappointed in the ending. However even though the ending was disappointing, it was still a enjoyable series and I very much liked how they at least tried to bring the gap from CCA. It also paid a nice nod to older fans by having Bright, Kai, Mineva, Dr. Hasan, in the series. But I've never seen anyone really go overboard in praising it. But that's just me.

Uh, excuse me, WeskerGriff, but you're missing one very important, fan favorite character cameo in Unicorn... Beltorchika Irma.
I mean, who doesn't just love that woman?
