Last I year, the dood who produced Schindler's List was gonna direct, but that was most likely just another rumor.

Spielberg's busy doing a movie based on the 1972 terrorist attack at the Olympics. The current rumour on the Lupin ML is Gore Verbinski(Ring remake director) is behind it.

I heard talk of Jim Carrey doing Lupin, he would be perfect for Lupin's physical comedy, though he might be a little old to be Lupin now. Does anyone know how old Lupin is supposed to be? I'd guess mid 20's but I don't know if they've ever said.
