I kind of have to disagree with this review in regards to its predecessor. I didn't really find much of the original series that engaging beyond the first 3 episodes or so. I barely finished it, and almost didn't start Stardust Crusaders because of my tepid reaction to the first series. But my interest in seeing Stands was too high so I checked it out anyway.
I ended up having the opposite enjoyment with this one. I didn't really like the first three episodes but the rest of the series easily made up for it. (With the exception of some of the last few episodes) I find Part 3 to be a vast improvement over the first two parts in nearly every way. Sure it's still not perfect, but I found it to be a lot more interesting overall. The addition of the stands definitely improved the series so I'm glad I decided to stick with it. Because of I didn't I woild have missed out on one of my favorite anime fights (being with the hanged man)
Sure Jotaro doesn't have as much life to him as Joseph did, and the series behind to get a big slow at the very end. But the overall series is very fun to watch and has given way to some pretty cool jokes amongst the characters and amongst my friends.
I definitely have to agree though, second half can't come soon enough! Especially since I've heard fantastic things about it.

The anime has been pretty solid so far, in my opinion. Aside from the awful botching of Part One's ending, it's a fairly faithful adaptation that has a lot of visual panache coupled with some great voice acting. Personally, though, I'm looking forward to the adaptation of Diamond Is Unbreakable. To me, that's the best arc Araki has done thus far.

If I'm being honest, the only battles that are interesting are the ones WITHOUT Jotaro involved.
Jotaro basically just ORA! ORA! ORA!'s the shit out of his enemies, which for me, got boring after like...the second time (although I did like it when he ORA!'d the crap out of The Lovers' stand user.)
As far as story is concerned, there really isn't any apart from:
Attempt to reach Dio, get stopped en route by bad guy, beat bad guy, find another way to reach Dio, rinse and repeat. That's pretty much what has happened throughout the first half and I'm hoping the second half does pick up on the story development front.

I see what he means about the in-show music, especially compared to Battle Tendency. Joseph's theme music, without any sort of buildup, being the opening chordes to "Owner of a Lonely Heart" was definitely memorable.
Still, it's a lot better than most of the other long runners on the air.

I haven't seen Phantom Blood or Battle Tendency yet, but the background music was consistently one of my favorite parts of Stardust Crusaders. Partly because of how repetitive and sleazy-sounding it was; it did a lot to add to the fun and the feel of this being like an '80s horror or adventure movie.
In spite of the issues with momentum that Nick mentions, JJBA was one of the few shows of the spring and summer seasons that I had no issues with my attention straying. But I wonder how much of that has to do with watching it week-by-week; it was fun to have that lift to my Fridays to see "what crazy stuff will the Stardust Crusaders encounter and battle next?" If you're watching it all at once, I imagine that would get a little bit repetitive.
Either way, looking forward to January and Dio!

So great that David Production made a follow-up to their original season of Jojo. Finally something good to watch. Can't wait for the continuation next year!

The first episodes weren't very hype but at some part I started to enjoy this show a lot. Looking forward to next episodes.

I think I personally like this season the best (so far) because of the characters. I feel like Joseph was really the only great character to come out of the first two arcs combined, and it was kind of genius to carry him over and then add Kakyoin and Polnareff. I also can't help but like Jotaro because he is sort of like the cool badass of all cool badasses. He usually seems to serve the purpose of being the straight man that is surrounded the several boke.
The stands I love, because they add that extra something in there and it's interesting to see how this "avatar-fighting" element more or less started with the manga. I also like how instead of a lot of fighting they still focus on the characters actually thinking of unique ways to be able kill these villains. The action itself might not be blowing me away, but I am certainly entertained with the process these characters go through to get there.

I know this isn't something you can actually consider being a responsible reviewer, but I personally wouldn't bother comparing the first part of JoJo to the second part. They are such different shows, both content wise and thematically, and if you think about it there is barely any connection between the two. If Joseph and Dio weren't in the show and Hirohiko Araki just called Stardust Crusaders a new manga, there would be no comparisons. Everyone would just call Stardust the next manga by the same creator with a very similar style. But the strength of JoJo is it's a 30 year old epic of a comic with various styles and methods of storytelling, and we are all better off for that.
I also think it is interesting that many people prefer the anime of Stardust Crusaders to Battle Tendency and Phantom Blood, but almost any manga reader picks Stardust as their favorite part.

Gratz on your first full review, Bob!
As for Jojo's, I never actually made it through the first arc. Manly dudes shouting and punching things just doesn't have the appeal it used to for me. But everytime I see you write about Jojo's, I'm tempted to give it another try.

Try starting through Part 2 or 3. They are very accessible. Part 2 has one of the MCs seen in a while while Part 3 has a group of cool and funny characters using Stands rather than their fists to fight

Stardust Crusaders is what made me a JoJo's fan. I found the characters and humor way more appealing than I did in Phantom Blood, which actually turned me off JoJo's when I tried watching it a couple years ago. I am glad that I went back to watch Battle Tendency though. It's worth suffering through boring Jonathan Joestar to witness Joseph Joestar.
Stands are way more fun than Hamon. Part 2 got a little more creative with it, but the Stands allow for a lot more diversity in the fights. Really, they're less like battles of strength and more like battles of wit. Stands are such a cool concept and I'm glad that Araki decided to make them the defining element for the rest of JoJo's.
Really looking forward to January. There's still lots of great moments in the manga that I want to see in animation.

Without Jotaro, we wouldn't have such phrase as Yare yare daze... I also enjoy this series and not one fight with stand was uninspired. Even without Jotaro, the sub-characters had enough life in them to be memorable. I guess I'm rather neutral to the review. Jojo may be the main character but I love this series for bringing 3 other characters to forefront and let them have the spotlight. I also enjoy the antagonists with all these creative stands they have. I am also looking forward to the season 2 for the epic fight between Jojo and Dio.

"Picking up a generation after the show's second arc, Stardust Crusaders introduces us to a new JoJo, Jotaro Kujo, and follows him and his companions on a winding adventure across Asia as they seek to save Jotaro's mother, Holly."
I don't know if I'm watching the same series on Crunchyrol? The first episode was when JoJo and Dio first meet when they are young and by the third episode JoJo loses his father and home. Then by episode 4/5 he meets Baron Zeppeli and is trained by him.
So what I'm I watching?

The very first JoJo season, aka Phantom Blood.
