Why is the one in the center wielding a giant blue... um... well heck, I can't be the only one who can't unsee it.

I auditioned for one of the characters on a TV show, so I probably won't watch since I regret not doing better. ; The high school girl who won is very cute though.

And Gainax continues to slip ever-so-slowly into a downward spiral.

Are you implying that Gainax never made otaku fodder before, even their beloved stuff? Gainax has no creative control anymore and they're just a dump studio for production committees, like DEEN, Madhouse, JC Staff, etc.

not everything a studio makes will be hit, gainax has its share of mediocre work sure, but that didint stop them from making flcl, gunbuster2, gurren laggan, psg, if you enjoyed them or not clearly depends on you. What im getting at is Its hardly the company that it was 10, 5 years ago.
It feels like theres no potential in that company. What they had went on to become trigger. This year they did want to make that honenamise sequel, a short at that but we'll see what happens....if anything.

Yeah, from the very beginning Gainax was doing projects for otaku and, often, about otaku, like Gunbuster. However, like you're saying here, this was because the Gainax dudes were otaku themselves, and so their anime had this strong personal, confessional thing going for it and was very artist-driven. Now that all those artists have gone to other studios, everything feels so committee driven and joyless. It's so sad.
That said, I hope Gainax will become a place for the new talent of tomorrow to get their starts, maybe even on a little series like this one!!

What makes it better is they're otaku for a lot of things, not only something related to anime/manga. So they're using inspirations from all over, that's not just constricted within the fandom.
