If only there was a way to sell them efficiently online and internationally. That's asking too much, but I wouldn't mind spending $10 on a good doujin.

Many of the downloads are probably from outside of Japan, which means that the uploaders are more of a "problem" domestically speaking. However, I would hope that this would encourage the authors and makers to make their products available internationally.

is there REALLY no internet service for doujinshi publications/sales? In the case of music, I know several doujin music labels that have their stuff up on sites like Beatport and it works for them.
Sadly, places like Funimation and CR and the like won't ever come up with something that works along the lines of Toranoana. |

It would also probably make the copyright holders care more about stopping them. Selling some doujins at Comiket is one thing, but they start trying to make services to sell their doujins through the internet or to foreign countries then they'll probably step in. |

If what is said about the crowds at Comiket are to be believed, how could ten times as many customers even get in to buy said books if they wanted to? Does the circle make them available for purchase online? You're talking about the difference between a global market (the internet) and a local one (comiket).
While I'm all for supporting talented artists, parody doujin of someone else's intellectual property should be being done for the love of it, not the money. Crying foul because someone is "stealing" your art of intellectual property you personally appropriated without permission is one thief attacking another. Unless its an original work or you're turning a portion of the proceeds over to the original manga-ka/author/production company, you're as much a thief as the guy downloading it. |

Also, considering the fact that most doujinshi are rarely sold in multiple languages, and are only translated by fans (sometimes), then your market audience is automatically restricted not only to just how many copies are made and how many people have actual access to purchasing them, but also to those who can actually read Japanese. So the fact that they are made available at all to those who only read English, Spanish, Italian, Russian, French, German, etc etc etc is only owed to the fact that they are uploaded for free download on the internet after being translated by those outside the circle.

Google Akibadaisuki. Of the larger retailers, you might want to check out places like Ami Ami and dlsite. And 10 times? That's not really to complain about, once you realize the legit stuff isn't really readily available digitally. And if they were, you'd start facing other problems, like RyanSatome hinted at... Aside of figures, I collect artbooks, and aside from regular ones I also have amassed a small collection of doujinshi ones* (really, discovering that venue felt like opening the door to a whole new world...). There are some caveats, like getting them past Customs as they tend to include sometimes quite peripheral stuff that you might not have a single clue of when filling the Customs declaration  . Aside from the precious few channels outside of Japan to obtain them.
As a disclaimer though, the number of doujinshi-related stuff I have downloaded is far larger than the legit ones, so the 10x mentioned in the article and applied to doujinshi artbooks probably is quite accurate in my case. *Sizes/shapes vary, so a 'book' might be a misnomer in a lot of cases. |

There is, except none of them like Toranoana, et. al will ship internationally. Amazon.co.jp won't either. Considering artist's work is hentai, there are also risks involved. For the US there are some proxy shops and J-List imports. |

 . Can't say I really feel sorry for the guy.
If he was making an actual indie comic he might get some sympathy, but don't feel bad for some random guy making money off of pornographic fan fics.
