Pretty damn cool! Too bad it can only pick up Japanese though... My Japanese is limited to 'bakayarou' and 'neko' and a handful of other words and phrases. lol.

I wonder if it's possible to use a similar technology to learn Japanese and how effective it would be.

The concept of the application doesn't really depend on how much Japanese you know. Its intent is not to make the song production easier for English speakers it's to decrease the difficulty of combining lyrics with a melody, provided you have one in mind, regardless of the actual language of the song. There's already an English version of Miku so I don't see how a language barrier is any barrier at all.
