I dunno, Brittany Karbowski really isn't my first choice for Tomoko's English VA. Neutral

I would've much rather they used her for Hajime for the Crowds dub.

Oh God, Sentai got ahold of Watamote? I probably shouldn't judge on just a 30 second clip, but I didn't think it was good at all :/

she may end up being Tomoko's VA, but for now this is just Anime Network promoting the show

They've had Watamote since before it aired. Regardless, this isn't a Sentai trailer, nor is it a sample of their dub. It's simply an Anime Network trailer, which are usually put together quickly by TAN. Sentai doesn't create the commercials for them, so it may not be indicative of any casting or dubbing decisions.

It will still be a while before we know any release info on Watamote, so one shouldn't jump to conclusions based on an Anime Network commercial. Remember, we didn't even hear anyone speak and the show is running sub-only on Anime Network VOD. It was simply a narration and they may have just chose whichever actress was available at the time they were working on it. It was probably done towards the end of one of her recording sessions at Seraphim for a show she is working on.

Hell, the show may not even end up getting dubbed (though it seems likely at the moment.)

I'm preeeeeeeeetty sure Karbowski can pull off a decent Tomoko, but I dunno.

My first choice was Luci Christian, but that's because Luci sounds absolutely amazing no matter what role she's in.

I'm willing to give Karbowski a chance, but this promo is only 30 seconds. I'll have to hear more to be certain if she can do a good job.

EDIT: Wait a minute, isn't it too early for a dub? It's only been a couple weeks since the last episode aired. Is Karbowski actually gonna be Tomoko, or are they trying out different VAs to get feedback so they can better decide who's gonna get the role?

Yes, it is too early for a dub. This is a TAN VOD commercial and probably doesn't reflect any casting or dubbing decisions. It will still be quite a while before this one is dubbed, if they do decide to.

Doesn't Karbowski voice over all(most?) of The Anime Network's promotional stuff?

Not all of them, but she's done a lot lately. Monica Rial, Luci Christian, and Hilary Haag are also commonly used (as far as female voices go.)

This show is gonna need to do well in the U.S to get a second season I'm betting. I'll definitely be getting it once it's released over here.

Doing well in the U.S. almost never effects whether or not an anime series gets a sequel. The chances of a sequel being made are almost entirely dependent on sales in Japan. U.S. sales are little more than a bonus.

That's the very reason why there will never be a third season for Rosario + Vampire, no matter how many people in America petition for it.

My impression of the dub promo:

The thing is, she's in "foolish optimism" mode in that trailer, so it makes sense that she sounds like a nerdy but relatively normal teenaged girl. We'll need to hear how well she can do "crippled with social anxiety" or "creepy and horrible" voices in order to properly get a sense of her performance.

Heavy lifting would mean like 12k units for it matter to Japan, maybe even more than that. Even if it did extraordinarily well, they're not Japanese sales.

On the dub, this series lives and dies by who's cast as Tomoko. The rest of the casting is pretty much irrelevant, and that clip sounded pretty weak until the last line.

Yeah, that last line was good and stood out. I'm sure that if they choose Karbowski to dub Tomoko, she'll eventually get into the role. If I were the ADR Director I'd want to hear her soft "socially anxious" voice before I'd make the decision.
