Not that I'm an expert on Japanese TV, but in the reality TV genre, just about everyone else seems to do it better than does the US. For instance, take Gordon Ramsay's US version of Kitchen Nightmares vs. its UK counterpart. While the latter is mainly a food show, the US version for the most part plays up drama between people (often family members) that have no business working together.

So, this might be interesting.

I can assure you, Mexico is not part of the "about everyone else". Mexican producers take everything that's bad about American reality TV and multiply it by a thousand. You should check out the Mexican version of Next Top Model, it's so bad it's hilarious
