Maybe Mr. Cruise likes manga & anime? Maybe he reads ANN while on the set? Cool

That's what I'd like to know. But hey, if he can produce some actual good ones, then I'm all for it.

Tom Cruise with homolust and fighter jets, that's somewhat of a guarantee it might be good

Everyone still likes Top Gun, right?

Well, as long as they keep the fighter the same, then I'm for it. But just in case they don't, I have started a petition to make sure that they do. In case ANN's forum rules forbid me to post links up, then google the following. warner-bros-keep-the-fighter-designs-from-the-anime-the-same

Not necessarily, given that it was co-written by a separate guy, David Leslie Johnson (whose only other credits are The Orphanage and the abysmal Red Riding Hood) so Wrath of the Titans' poor quality could be his fault, as well as director Jonathan Liesbsmann, or the fact that it was basically a studio made picture.

Given Dan Mazeau has never written anything else, I think we shouldn't be too quick to judge his writing talents quite yet.

I have extremely mixed feelings on this because on the one hand, I absolutely love the novels. But then there's Tom Cruise. It would be nice if they were able to get an actual Asian person to play the lead since Rei Fukai is so very obviously not white. Then again, it's Hollywood and they are balls at that sort of thing.

+1. At least Tom Cruise is a better actor than Sam Worthington. I attribute much of that movie's "suck" to Worthington's cheesy acting and the movie setting its overabundance of bad CG. Sometimes I wonder if they even have sets for A-list movies in Hollywood these days (or wherever they film to get their tax breaks) or if they're all just blue screens with blue Styrofoam props, as seen in the Behind the Scenes footage for the Star Wars prequels.

Hollywood says that it's OK to cast non "racially appropriate" actors if the actor is a big name actor like Johnny Depp. Why then not Tom Cruise, since he's a bigger name?

Though I consider this "actors must be the race of their character" movement to be literally racist as well as nonsensical.

Maybe he's just bored with his "status quo"? Wait, I hope that isn't the case as that could set him up to star in a Hollywood adaptation of Death Note... Laughing

A little too old for one.

Rei's young. And Japanese. It definitely shows because there's a small arc about it in the first book, iirc.

I could see Cruise doing a decent Booker though and that way, you don't have worry about the miscasting like what happened to All You Need Is Kill's film.

I just hope they don't make this a Top Gun sequel. The novel actually tosses a lot of very good questions to the reader which definitely made the story for me. I HOPE they don't take it out of the film.

You act as if Hollywood constantly whitewashing characters isn't.

Well at least Cruise won't pretend to be Japanese (and after the critical and financial thrashing the Lone Ranger received, I don't think they're going to try garbage like that again).

So I take it that the plans for live action Bleach has fell through then?

It seems here that unlike all other past Hollywood attempts to bring live action adaptations of Japanese IPs, it seems that anything that Tom Cruise is in would automatically get moving instead of staying in development hell and somehow, I picture that this will become the closest in being Top Gun 2 as we're all going to get.

As for Tom Cruise, he's a fantastic actor but in regards to his personal life, let's just say that you should know what you're getting yourself into because ask Katie Holmes about it.
