I'd love to see an anime of it. Ribbon no Kishi is considered the prototype of magical girl anime. It'd be interesting to see a remake with the magical girl genre so different and established in this day and age and to see how it can adapt all the new tropes and elements into it.

Admittedly, it's been a few years since I've read the original (or the revised version), but I don't recall any real "magical girl" elements to it at all. It's a fairly straight-forward "crossdressing girl" series.

That's what I mean by a prototype. It may not have been an actual 'magical girl' but set a lot of tropes you'd later find in them. A girl with an alternate identity that even if she doesn't 'transform' in the magical sense, she still dons a separate identity to fight evil. As well as possessing a magical sidekick who was responsible for her 'powers' and other things things that later become staples.

The previews make it look like it's gonna be super duper intense!! Sapphire's new design looks so dashing and cool. I wonder if this is based more on the anime or the manga; I'd love it if Captain Blood made an appearance!
