A democrat from the north east that hates violent video games and guns....? That's original. I didn't think such a person existed. /sarcasm
Someone should point out to him that anyone who is a politician is mentally ill.
Edit
I also should add that Diane Feinstein, Nancy Pelosi and Barbara Boxer should be sent to the moon permanently. Nothing but an avalanche of ignorance ever comes out of their mouth.

Easy target. Moreso than the gun lobby.

Let's put it this way. People with mental illnesses, like Adam Lanza, were sick and already over the edge long before they ever knew about video games. Video games will only accelerate the downhill pace that is past that edge.
These people need help. Instead of focusing on gun and media control, how about you actually work with these mentally ill people directly? It's a damned shame the stigma that other people attach to those with such evil, dark infections in their heads that they have no control over whatsoever. You politicians, by avoiding the option of working with them, also attach such stigma.

From an article about politicians who are grandstanding. Gotcha. You won't see me in this thread again.

The problem with mental illness is defining the border. Where does one draw the line between sane and insane? Are the mentally ill allowed to refuse treatment? If not, how far do we go before entering the territory of thought control? Do we want a government that can criminalize whatever it chooses to define as "insanity"?

He really isn't saying there is a definite link. He is suggesting that there may be one, and hey, let's look into that. It's not really about partisanship that is making everyone in CT act like this right now, if McMahon had won the senate seat we would be hearing just the same kinds of rhetoric. Maybe for different reasons (deflection of the gun control debate to be sure), but the same sorts of comments all the same. Let's not forget how many people, most of whom were children, were killed. People are terrified and looking for answers. Hopefully it won't devolve into the sorts of fear-mongering that has gotten us into trouble in the past.

So can books and movies Senator. Don't point to video games exclusively.
Just look at John Hinckley, Jr. and his obsession with Jodie Foster which led to his taking a shot at Reagan.
Unstable people got tipped over the edge by popular media long before Video Games existed.

A lot of people in this world with Asperger's Syndrome who play violent videos do not turn into monsters afterwards.

Ok, I'm also mentally ill (a bit) and can safely say that violent video games don't affect me in any negative manner. In fact, I play f**king Painkiller to ease off some stress.
*sigh*

People with mental disorders may suffer... But why should those who don't have one suffer as well? Violent films most likely do the same thing, I do not see them being targeted.

If they're mentally ill in a violent way, anything could put them over the edge. A pattern on a couch cushion could do it.
It's pretty difficult to actually kill a person with a video game. I guess you could stuff it down someone's throat. But most games aren't cartridges anymore. Maybe if you break the discs and use the jagged pieces. Oooh, or use the wires to choke or bind while readying something worse, like a severe beating with the bulk of the video game console. Maybe have the thing plugged in and pour water on the victim-to-be. Then there are things you can do with the slender Wii controller, if you apply it to the right sp----
Uh, I can feel you guys pulling away.
