I can't recommend this highly enough. The story is really good, the animation is detailed (lots of background characters moving around), and the background art is fantastic. I hope subtitled blurays are made available for purchase in the future. A must buy title for me.
BTW, This is not anything like the fujoshi anime Hakkenden that is streamed on Crunchyroll. This is made for a more general audience (though NOT for children, as there are scenes that deal with sexuality and animal hunting and killing).

Well this looks neat! Maybe I'll watch it. Hopefully it's streaming here in Canad-
Never mind.

Quote: | The Edo-era samurai are the reincarnations of the spirits that Princess Fuse mothered with a dog named Yatsufusa. |
Is Princess Fuse also a dog or is this just poorly worded?

they said that a literal level was meant
Set in the tumultuous Sengoku period (350 years before Bakin lived), Hakkenden is the story of eight samurai half-brothers--all of them descended from a dog and bearing the word "dog" in their surnames
they also said the story didn't focus on it

How are they related?

It's available on Hulu Plus in HD (720p).
But if your complaining about Hulu's standard def, you probably hate Plus.
