If it wasn't for the "anime" in the title, I would normally expect a live action, with an ad like that.

Looks delicious! I love Arakawa, so I'm really looking forward to this! (I also hope someone picks up the manga)

Nothing like going from a sprawling epic about the fate of a country and the ideals of the few who set out to save it to a story about some guy learning how to cook.

Would you really say it's about "some guy learning to cook"? ^^; I didn't really get the impression.
Anyway, really, really looking forward to this. The manga is great and I'm expecting a nice anime adaptation. So curious about the cast!

The manga is pretty good even if the first volume has quite stiff drawings; it's not your regular shounen title, but it is really original and deals with some important real world matters such ethics in the agricultural industry, with many slice of life elements and a personal story of growth for the main character.
The commercial was awesome, by the way.

How does it compare with Moyashimon?

Not just a country but the whole world!
And yes, the manga isn't bad but I wasn't very impressed by it.

I'm pretty sure the stakes in FMA was only the country of Amestris, and not the whole world.
This is Hiromu Arakawa! She grew up on a farm, her self portrait is a cow, and she has very strong opinions about milk. But most importantly, she has a great sense of humor and can write engaging characters who change and grow as the story goes along. I haven't read Silver Spoon's manga, but I can't imagine it's anything less than good.

Do get your hands on the manga if you have a chance! If you like her work then I'm sure this will be no exception.

Yeah but AFTER he took over Amestris I think he would have want to take over the rest of the world...
