This is my second favorite One Piece Saga! FUNimation I would LOVE to own this on Blu-ray! If Toei does this to all the Saga's this is a good way to introduce One Piece to New fans so they won't have to watch 500 Episodes...

Agreed, this arc still stands up as one of the best. Really looking forward to seeing it OAV'd.

That's actually smart as heck. I could never get my friend who's interested into One Piece to watch it because of the long arcs. It would feel good to just say watch these 6 specials and ur good lol. |

The Arlong saga was weak as hell. All fishman arcs get dragged on much to long. Loguetown was ten times better than Nami's home island drag arc. Nami is just an annoying useless character anyway's. Zoro was heavily injured but still kicked a fishman's ass, Sanji kicked a fishman's ass underwater, and Luffy when he got serious smashed weak ass Arlong. Useless arc, that has no reason to be "recreated/retold" to remake something as pointless as this arc for an overrated character like Nami. Luffy or Zoro's backgrounds should be better expressed.

Pointlessly angry much? I think this is one of the more emotional arcs and look forward to seeing it. |

Yet I hear no end to the bashing of the recap movies like Alabasta. |

I should point out that we just learned about Luffy's background within the last year or so, it would be too soon to create a special about him. Zoro's background, while sad, isn't very dramatic (at least compared to the other characters). The Arlong arc was where One Piece came into its own. And Nami is anything but useless. |

Zoro's background was explored in one of the best stand-alone episodes of the series. As for Luffy, he got a storyline exploring his past that was over 20 episodes long. What more do you want? |

Everyone has their own opinion, but this is the arc where One Piece actually stood above the rest for me. I almost gave up the series because while I was seeing some good stuff... it wasn't really giving me anything significantly meaningful and its presentation was a bit too generic and cliche for my own interest. And then this arc... just completely blew my mind. That one major scene (and I'm sure those who have read/seen the arc know which scene I'm talking about) made me shed tears for the first time (but not the last time). The thing I like most about One Piece that I've realized since this arc, even going back to before this arc, is that it tackles a TON of real-life, controversial topics in a simply way we, as the readers, can understand. And then it gives us an answer to it we can believe in, right or wrong, based on the circumstances. Ridiculous as all heck? Yeah. But something we can care about as readers/watchers? Double yes. Not everyone feels the same as I do about the series, but this is why I feel like this arc, regardless of it being better than the other arcs or not, is the first arc that really expressed what the series was about to a great amount of people. |

One Piece is a hard series to get into given it's length now, it would be faster to read the manga, but getting into it through the anime is hard. Funimation hasn't even gotten into Water 7 yet, which is one of the longest story arcs.

If you haven't watched One Piece yet, the I'd say it's too late unless you are REALLY dedicated to catching up! lol
As for this special, considering this story arc was originally aired 12 years ago, and it actually plays a part in the events of the current Fish-man arc, then it's a rather clever thing to do. It also gives them a handy one week break from the current episodes. |

just so were clear here, these anime episodes (and im talking about the series ones) are made well in advance, taking a one week break isn't going to help boost the quality or pacing of any future episodes as they have already been made months ahead of time. having said that, its never too late to watch the anime, one could watch about 5-6 a day if they really wanted to and be caught up soon enough. lastly i would really hope they could go back and do this for every arc.it would be a nice service for not only old fans but new ones. but like many of us know the chances of that are .01 at best, and the only reason were even getting this is because of FI arc. |

Everyone says how One Piece is hard to get into anime wise because it's long, but there is a American teacher living and working in Japan, a YouTuber he screename is http://www.youtube.com/user/meapheandjunk and she started watching One Piece, she does these really neat recap videos and discusses the show. She started with Episode 1 on August 31st, 2011, she's on Episode 362 one year later, that's not bad at all, she does have a job and stuff so she just can't sit down and plow though it like some people can, but you can get into it if you try.
