Meanwhile, CR had stated they will be offering a one month free trial to PS3 users when their app is released, and their standard free trial is two weeks, as is Funimation's.

Now that's unfair... Seriously, a week's time is more than enough to get a feel what this network is going to be like. That, and this is overall more expensive, and honestly, I appreciate the effort of being able to watch it as a regular tv channel.

The two services are providing two very different things, and I don't know how comparable they really are.

I think it is stupid to not release it for computer first. Some people, like me, do not have a video game console (PS3, Wii or Xbox) and not everybody who does has a PS3, but nearly 100% of people have a computer.

So one console which is a notable third in total sales? With no multi-console approach, PC approach, or even iOS app?

Oh this is so going to blow up in their faces and I have zero sympathy.

Personally, this seems like a crap deal compared to Crunchyroll and the content doesn't grab me as much. CR's archive is huge compared to Viz's and you get all of that as well as brand new anime.

Extremely comparable. Like comparing ABC to NBC, Nickelodeon to Cartoon Network, CNN to MSNBC, MTV to VH1, Showtime to HBO, etc.

To be fair, a crapton of Viz content is already available on PC via Netflix, Hulu, Viz's own website, and many other sources.

Uh-huh. No, notsomuch.

Of course, CR is, of course, the better deal by a long shot, even disregarding that what it provides is something Neon Alley could never provide given their stated restrictions.

Man, this is one of the few times I wish I had a PS3. Hopefully a 360 version will be available in the future.

As a big dub fan, this is awesome. The subscription is really cheap given that dubs are a crapload more expensive to produce.

While I'm also a fairly big fan of dubs, I'm still not too sure how well this service will work. Not that it matters for me, since I don't have a Playstation 3 anyways.

Still, it would be nice if they released apps for it on the Xbox 360 and the upcoming Wii U, just so they could reach more people.

This is for dub fans, so it's just filling a console premiere niche that Viz wants to capitalize by itself. We'll see if people actually pay for stuff.

How is it that "unfair"? I'm pointing out the competition gives a longer free trial (and will be giving one 4 times as long on the same platform).

How is this "overall more expensive"? It is priced only 4 cents more per month than CR (and 96 cents less than Funimation Elite), and Viz would still get revenue from ads during the free trial period, while CR would be serving streams ad free.

Given that this is a linear channel, that one week trial would probably only give you a single episode of each series, likely repeated multiple times throughout the week (and possibly on the same day).

Offering it only on the console makes it more difficult to pirate the material.

It would likely be "overall more expensive" because their actually scheduling a 24 hour network.

Yeah, I think you're probably right about that. So WHAT if it's Blu-Ray HD quality or whatever. This is gonna be a disaster of epic proportions! Of course, we COULD be wrong...

Their original press release stated consoles. PS3 probably has the biggest amount of animu-fan owners anyways.
