I hope she wins. It seems like a huge violation of privacy for a company to take the access to your credit that they gain when you pay for a service and then use it for whatever other purposes they want and the publicly post the data on the internet.

It is if you're trying to hide it by using a pseudonym, like many mangaka use.

If they got the information via her credit card info, they deserve to be sued. But there's age discrimination in VA work? It's voice over! Wendee Lee is middle-aged and she still regularly gets work. This seems like a bit player VA is just frustrated her career went nowhere.

Yeah, I don't get that part. Isn't it quite common for voice actors to be cast as characters younger than them?
If you're a trained actor with a certain voice range in your 30's, you can probably sound the same in your 40's as well.

Keep in mind this voice actress only worked for ADV in the late 90s to early 00s, since then she's been doing live action on-camera work.

I don't think the issue is IMDB just posting her age, it's the fact the IMDB took private information and made it public. This is similar to a online store, e.g. amazon.com, posting my home address whenever I post a review of a product. Total violation of privacy laws and trust. Good for her for suing

80% of her listed credits are live action.

I think this is making the whole matter even worse. I can certainly understand her wanting to sue IMDB, but doesn't she think that this is drawing MORE attention to the matter? Now everybody knows that she's much older than she looks...

I think she should stick to modeling. It's clear her success in Hollywood will likely never be where she wants it.

The judge also denied Hoang's claims to US$1 million in punitive damages.

This seems a little backwards, even when the case is heard by a judge. Don't they need to decide something like the outcome of the case before how much (if anything) one side or the other was entitled to receive? Unless the judge is trying to say "you will probably win, but it won't be worth your time, so go away."

No. The only claim that was allowed to proceed was her claim for breach of contract, and breach of contract claims are not awarded punitive damages. They are only awarded compensatory damages since the goal is to make the injured party "whole" with compensatory damages. They still have will have to determine such details in later proceedings, but since the other claims were dismissed, the damages sought under those claims go with them.

She initially filed as "Jane Doe" to continue hiding her identity, but the judge said if she wants to continue into trial, the implications of the case outweighs her right to privacy, so she probably determined it's worth it, especially with both SAG and AFTRA unions supporting her.

Meanwhile, her ANN entry lists her age as well.

Looks good for her age though.
