Good. I can't say how much I've enjoyed this show. It sounded so freaking stupid, but the characters are all lovable and really well developed.

Yes, it's confirmed for 25 episodes which would take it up to the end of march. And now this is saying that there will be even more episodes starting in April.

Something must be working for this series, cause it sure as heck isn't the DVD/BD sales.

What? This pile gets a second season while good shows like Chihayafuru or Kamisama Dolls don't?

Sigh. Why the heck do I still get surprised anymore? This is just par for the course.

[N.B. if you don't agree with either of my examples, just substitute in shows that you like. My point still stands; there are better titles out there which are more deserving of a sequel than this one.]

BD and DVD

The 'points' obviously aren't all-telling, but they do provide a decent ballpark figure. Phi Brain has 313 BD points and 150 DVD points. For reference on how close the numbers can be, Haganai had 9,720 BD points and 2,218 DVD points. So off by a bit but still a reasonable estimate. The only series with lower points than Phi Brain is the new Hunter X Hunter.

I've found the first season watchable and moderately enjoyable but I can't say I'd get into a second season. It's just not that strong a story.

i just checked, i haven't been keeping up to date for about a month now so i assumed by the article that it was doing some sort of Fate/Zero season split thing although now i realise that its still airing episodes, my bad there

As far as I know, its a show that airs during the day... so its probably the ratings helping it.

This honestly seriously surprises me. I mean the show is enjoyable enough, but I don't see it being able to reasonably continue for another season...

The ratings? I haven't seen ratings for this series, but it's a kids' show and it airs on NHKe in a pretty good slot, so I'd be surprised if it didn't have decent ratings. Besides, Phi Brain is quasi interactive, and is tied with another show about puzzles so it might be part of NHK's puzzle-awareness campaign or something.

In any case, I'm happy about this. I started watching it on a whim, but Phi Brain turned out to be a very charming, enjoyable show. Yes, it's silly but it's a children's show about kids and deadly puzzles, what did you expect?

Many of us are into otaku/late-night anime, so it's a generalization when we say that the industry depends on DVD/BD sales.

Children's/daytime anime follow a different business model. Furthermore, NHK shows are notoriously low budget and are sometimes presented as educational or cultural programming.
