This doesn't sound good. Wonder if the Kindle has them worried.

Barnes and what?

Yeah, Kindle is going to win, sadly. (Sadly since people will lose their jobs)

That's pretty darn good revenue! Didn't realise that e-books were generating that kind of money already.

Doesn't sound like a bad thing, sounds more like it's doing so well it can stand on its own rather than share costs/profits with the book store side.

Insane news from B&N...Why spin off what is essentially keeping you relevant right now. Yeah, they've got market dominance now that Borders is gone, but they are still competing with Amazon first.

Also very curious info about Tablet vs Touch...I don't think it's an UI issue, but from the looks of things branding has won this corner of the market for Amazon. All eInk readers might now be Amazon's base. On the other hand, it appears as if the Nook Tablet has found a strong place for itself in this market.

Sadly while that is a good spot to be in, as the article notes it also requires a lot more R&D money than B/W eInk readers (note that if spun-off the Nook company would focus on apps, eProducts and hardware and book sales would likely be for B&N's eBook store). So I can understand why B&N would worry, but if they follow through they're done.
