I have to say. One of the things I love/loved about YuYu is that it is one of the few SJ aniime adaptions I've seen to have a truly conclusive/satisfying ending, and considering it decided not to cover the manga's supposedly much weaker ending, it says a lot about how much the anime team cared about the series.

The ending is pretty much the same as the manga's, but the anime skipped a bunch of stand-alone chapters that came right before the last one (nothing really important happens in them, although we finally get to meet spoiler[Yusuke's and Kuwabara's dads]) and added a lot of stuff to the Makai tournament, including the entire Kurama/Shigure fight, making the arc's conclusion much more climactic than it was in the manga.

I wouldn't call YYH's English dub "shamelessly unfaithful". It's far more faithful than DBZ's dub.

The review was very good. The end of the Black Chapter and what followed it was pretty amazing, but then we get a tournament. Still, the delivery was much better than in the manga where few fights were shown, and there were some random stories before the ending.

Frame it however you like it is still pretty damn unfaithful.

Said it before, say it again, YYH still remains one of my all-time favs.

This review was absolutely spot-on with my feelings over the final arc. Great setup, disappointing resolution, but a satisfying ending. The thing that felt the most disappointing for me was the inclusion of some of the Dark Tournament characters. Initially when they're brought in, it felt like it was going to be something epic, but then they end up doing absolutely nothing in the tournament and spending all that time with them seems a bit of a waste and pointless.

What it feels like is that there was some pressure to finish the story arc as fast as possible, as if something else was planned that didn't come to fruition, so it confuses me as to why there are more stories after this in the manga. I'd love to know what was going on behind the scenes with this arc.

The manga was actually supposed to end with the Black Chapter, but Togashi's editor told him to make one story arc more.
