No shocker there. But can they be sure the LA Kite will be done by then, and be released to theaters instead of DTV? Rolling Eyes I mean, they were supposed to announce the cast at AFM, and that didn't happen.

What I'm wondering is whether the uncut version will indeed truly be the uncut version. The double pack release included the edited adult version, so my hopes aren't too high.

Cutting those sequences out really messes up the flow of that scene towards the end.

Why? I think thats the question to ask here. I saw this on dvd, and thought this was the kind of out dated crappy anime that should have died with a dvd release. The art style is not particularly good, the story is weak, and it really only panders to those who want gratuitous violence and nudity, but who for some reason cant just go and rent a hentai.

And to think it had 2 dvd releases, and a sequel is baffling.

If you mean the Kite + Mezzo Forte double pack, there are two versions available and one is the uncut version. If you mean Kite + Kite Liberator pack then you won't get the uncut version. The uncut version is also available by itself.

Maybe you gotta buy Cool Devices and watch the Yellow Star segment.

I meant the Kite + Mezzo Forte double pack (adult version). The version included in that set had some sequences removed. There are two versions of the adult release in the US on DVD: a truly uncut version and a version with a couple sequences involving an underage girl cut out.

Ah I see, thanks. Dammit, I guess I have the still-edited version since I only bought the double pack during an MB sale and didn't think there was a difference with the singles. I'm looking on rightstuf and I see another adult version labeled "Special Edition" (vs the director's cut) that states "completely uncut" which I presume is what you're referring to. But I'll just wait for the bluray now to see if that's what they'll use.

The double-pack you're referring to states 16+ on RS. RS also has a 18+ version (published by Kitty Media) on sale as well.

It should be kept in mind though that the U.S. never got a completely uncut version of Kite. At least that's what I'm understanding from these:

2000 article

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2000-09-21/kite-uncut
Quote:
Media Blasters president John Sirabella has announced that an almost uncut version of Kite will be released in January on VHS, they do not currently have fixed plans for a DVD release.

This version of Kite will feature all the scenes from the original except the pornographic scenes involving Sawa when she was underage, these scenes are expected to be cut, not edited as many fans had requested.

Kite was originally released in Northe America under Media Blasters AnimeWorks label, however the "less cut" edition of Kite will be released by Media Blasters' Kitty label which specializes in Adult Anime.

2001 Article

animenewsnetwork.com/news/2001-10-03/new-media-blasters-dvd-announcements
Quote:
The Kite "Director's Cut" will premier on bilingual DVD on the 29th at $29.95. This adults-only version of Kite restores the original Japanese scene sequence that was altered for the all-audiences American version, and restores nearly all of the sex from the Japanese version.

I'm assuming that the 18+ Director's Cut DVD version is the Kitty label VHS version spoken about in the 2000 article. This Kitty Media version also seems to be the version spoken of as the 18+ blu-ray release.

Too many versions, do I have my facts correct here?

EDIT:

ARRRG!! I see you posted the correct information just below me here Mr. Crassius, but I'll post this edit here to simply not take up any more space.

You are correct, Sir. I checked out the forum here as well to double check myself. Understood, thanks for clearing all that up, UncleCrassius!

Nope. I can confirm from my own DVD that the US has gotten a fully uncut release. I believe it was initially released only as 16+, then later, it got an 18+ release with most of the adult scenes restored but the underage stuff cut out. Then a couple years after THAT it got a true uncut release. So I guess there are three versions in the US.

This is the true uncut version:

Wow, I watched this for the first time the other day. The whole thing had a very post-modern vibe to it, and I loved it perhaps more than I should have. Seeing it on Blu-Ray is going to be a real treat (especially that bathroom scene!). ^^

There are actually 4 since the 16+ version got a remastered release back in 2009.

I am actually pretty excited about this. I have bought a few times back in the past. The first time was back in 2001 with the highly edited version then I bought uncut version back in 2004. Since I now got a blu ray player I wouldn't mind getting this again. Kite is a love/hate show with many fans. I am usually not a big person on blood/gore shows or even hentai (yes i still call Kite a hentai), but I was always fond of this title. Weird huh? Confused

I didn't realise there were so many versions out there. The version I bought was the Kite Duology pack, which consisted of Kite Remastered and Kite Liberator. I liked the animation style of the period. Reminded me Armitage. I'll be picking up the BD version of Kite for the better picture and sound quality, but as it turns out, also for the missed scenes.
