Sad to hear "Nichijou" isn't selling well; it's a pretty funny show.

KyoAni broke away from the fold with Nichijou. It doesn't have the 'moe' feel and so its sales suffered. I thought maybe once Nano received more time (obviously the most 'moe' character in Nichijou) then sales would improve, but that never happened.

Maybe this will lead KyoAni to do another Key game adaptation. I have my fingers crossed for a Planetarian OVA but Little Busters or Rewrite would be cool as well.

EDIT: I'm not sure how anyone expected R-15 or ItsuTen to break even. I knew those were doomed to begin with (see this post here).

Also, I really wish I would stop getting this dern 403 error when posting.

Ouch.

I really like Nichijou. I guess even the major hype can't save decent anime from bad economy.
I haven't watched other two, so I can't say much about them.

KyoAni has the K-ON! Movie to pick itself right back up so I'm not too worried. Though Kadokawa on the other hand REALLY put too many eggs in one basket on Nichijou. I heard even the BDs were too expensive for the otaku to buy compare to the other series with similar quality but at a cheaper price.

I found the problem with Nichijou is that it had no real sense of comic timing. Instead it just stretched every skit out long beyond the point at which it ceased to be funny and just became tedious.
If it had been more quick-fire skit comedy it might have done better.

I guess my hopes for a Nichijou sequel have been dashed. I thought the series was amazing and can't wait to buy the DVDs. I wonder if Bandai knew what the Japanese sales were like before licensing it, or maybe it was because of those sales that they were able to get it so quickly.

It does suck that it didn't do well, but, man, look at the other great selling shows it was competing with:

AnoHana
Blue Exorcist
Hanasaku Iroha
Steins;Gate
Tiger and Bunny
and Madoka

So I'm disappointed, but I'm far from shocked. Even otaku have a limit. When you're already buying AnoHana, Hanasaku Iroha, and Madoka, plus whatever merchandise you're buying, it's hard to squeeze in another high/overly priced show that's 13 volumes long.

Itsuken was below mediocre, Nichijou repetitive as hell, and I didn't even watch 1 sec of R-15. What a surprise.

They have many other (better?) options too.

They have many other (better?) options too. Moe "feel" won't help on it anyway.

Better in terms of what? Financially, I certainly can't think of any.

Sure, they could do another Full Metal Panic series, but that never sold all that great for them.

And yes, the 'moe' feel is pretty much the most important thing there is in SoL/comedy with a mainly female cast.

Sad that Nichijo didn't sell well, I thought it was pretty good, even if it did stagnate occasionally

Also I wonder if this will give Kadokawa or any other production company a real wake-up call and actually give KyoAni other types of anime projects to work on that really harness their potential. If you look at the animation aspect of Nichijou, this is probably one of the most creative effort they dished out.

I had enough Nano for this. It's just not makes sense. The price can be the reason of this.

So what were the sales for Nichijou, anyway? I'm pretty curious how many DVD/BD an anime series has to sell in order to "break even."
