nothing surprising, Sony has always pushed their new tech in Japan like the minidisc.
but what about the USA?
I can tell you that trying to find a decent anime title on bluray last year was like looking for a rain storm in the Mojave Desert.
it's great that things are improving.

Considering Japan only ended analog broadcasting this month, people are probably only beginning to switch over to HDTVs and Blu-ray players, and there is always a slump in video sales during transition phases. People who are planning on upgrading to a Blu-ray player aren't going to buy DVDs any longer, but they still won't buy the Blu-ray discs until after they have the player to watch them on.

So this slump in home video sales isn't that surprising.

As you mention mini discs, they were huge in Japan but a complete failure here in the US. So this is good for the Japanese market but it means nothing here.

I though all bluray disks contained either anime or PS3 games.

I'm rather certain this is a error:

"reaching the highest levels since Oricon began tracking Blu-ray sales in 2004."

The first blu-ray players and titles went on sale in summer 2006.

too bad almost no anime series actually "merits" (i.e. uses to full capacity) a BD release oO

Id like to think that a large majority of these sales are due to Infinite Stratos, Madoka, and Ano Hana

na, Ano Hana doesn't sell.

there were alot of big titles in the first half.

Kara no Kyōkai, K-ON!, Mobile Suit Gundam UC.

Yes it did. It sold 40k+, more than Stratos.

You might want to double check your sources. Ano Hana sold like MAD.

That is a fairly impressive statistic; it makes me wonder what the corresponding figure is in the U.S. I was tempted to say that anime makes up maybe 1% of blu-ray sales in the U.S., but I suspect that number is way too high.

You have to admire the super-otaku. They apparently want anime on blu-ray and they vote with their wallets.

maybe i word it wrong. I don't need to check my source, there is no way it can out sell K-on, Gundam etc. it's just common sense. dude that anime only has one vol(dics) out. K-on has like 10 dics out. you should quote my entire post, not just select one part to get the full story.

I don't think IS is selling that well too. maybe just little bit better than the other anime. They don't contribute that much to the total anime bluray sell. 40k is alot for TV series, but compare to anime movies that's not that much. IS sold more than Ano Hana in the first half, you guys might need to check the total sale.

I think Ano Hana sold more per vol, but total sale is different story.

They did quote your whole post. Every single word you wrote is quoted there. You said Ano Hana doesn't sell. Facts show that it does sell, and it is selling very well. You didn't say "Ano Hana doesn't sell as much as [insert title here]", you said it doesn't sell, period. There is no twisting of your words, just twisting being done by you to pretend you weren't wrong.
