Really? I don't even like Hetalia and even I knew about this. http://www.funimation.com/rojas/blog/hetalia-at-otakon-2011/291481 |

I know and it does make sense to announce at the Hetalia heavy convention, but I got it into my head that since Comic-Con is the BIG thing, that that is wear the majority of announcements would be made. I guess I'm not used to the Anime Scene and the multiple Cons with multiple announcements. |

Well, Comic Con is huge, of course, but it's not an anime/manga focused con. It's still largely for American comics. So, it makes more sense to me that companies, and especially anime companies, would do their biggest announcements at the big anime cons like AX and Otakon. I guess I always look to Comic Con for more manga related news than anime.

Anime is such a small part of what goes on at SDCC that it's almost a waste to make an announcement there, it's just going to get lost in the hoopla. FUNi is small fish in a HUGE pond at SDCC, but at the big anime cons like Anime Expo and Otakon they're the big fish in the small pond. If you have a big anime announcement save it for a big anime convention, not a scifi woodstock like SDCC. Edit: What Sailor S said. |

None of Funimations recent announcements are interesting to me. My first experience with the Dragonball franchise has been the Kai eps running on CW, and I think the abbreviated storytelling in Kai is boring beyond belief. I can't imagine how I would feel about the full length version. Just not for me. I'm surprised that Funimation still thinks the market for this franchise is not over-saturated enough for yet another edition of the same property.
So far the only definite buys for me are Shiki and Princess Jellyfish, and they announced those way before these last two cons. The Hetalia announcement at Otakon is probably the worst kept secret ever. I'll probably end up buying that one too, but its announcement will be no surprise at all. Nothing to exciting for me, but nice to know that more One Piece is in the works. Kinda glad I didn't go though.

Yeah, in retrospect I don't know why I convinced myself I would be hearing word from here.
I guess I was just used to the mantra "Everything will be explained at Comic-Con", that the American Comics Fandom sorta has to repeat to try and understand what on earth DC and Marvel are going to do to screw over continuity this time. It sort of gets ingrained in you along with the eye-rollings at the "shocking" deaths of certain heroes. I was in the American Comics Fandom for several years and only within the last year or so rediscovered my love for Manga and Anime and drifted more towards this side currently. Guess I haven't really readjusted my expectations of announcements. Well, I'll be eagerly waiting for Otakon then and the Hetalia announcement then. I want my Season 3 and/or Movie. |

I think it's a waste of time and money.
Do people even buy the one piece thin packs regularly? I like the series alot but I am not about to drop 400$ on the whole collection, especially since it is unfinished and has filler. but you know, though I talk big I actually own a few of the bleach DVD sets, up till the bount filler so I guess people do collect them. still, one piece has never taken off to the masses like dragon ball in the USA. I would not work so hard in maintaining the rights. |

Obviously. If people didn't, they wouldn't be working on getting more. You can say what you want about Funi, but if something's not working, they're not going to stubbornly keep doing it and lose money just to prove some kind of point. |

Which is why Funimation put the kibosh on xxxHoLiC, Hell Girl, and Higurashi: When They Cry after the first season of each. Hopefully they don't do the same for Black Butler!
