I wouldn't be so sure about that. Just because Cantarella has a decent girl population in the English speaking community doesn't mean it does in Japan. Vocaloid is still fairly male-dominated over there. The only thing that'll bring in the girls are those actors. Daisuke Watanabe is too hot for words. ^^;

Doubt it, Cantarella is really classical male/female drama (Miku & Kaito). Not really fujoshi stuff.

I think you're confused with the otaku base which is male dominant with the wider Vocaloid-listening audience which is fairly well balanced (according to Sony's demographic reports on the purchasers of Supercell's album it's 50/50).

Actually, the otaku base isn't nearly as male dominant as you'd think. Having taught in a Japanese high school, I found that for every five male otaku, there were three girls. At least, that's how it was where I taught. The girls were still in the minority, but not vastly so. They just kept it a secret because they didn't want it to mar their reputations.

Going by that same group of kids and all the kinky merchandise I saw in Akiba, Vocaloid was way more male dominate. Of course, my statements are going strictly by what I personally saw while living there and aren't based on any magazine statistics or anything like that. Maybe things have changed since I moved back to the States last year...
