If someone in America were to buy this, could they play it on a regular BluRay player? I'm new to the whole BluRay scene and have no idea if they are region coded like DVDs.

yes it would work, because japan and america share the same region when it comes to blu-ray players, but only blu-ray,

Good to see you again, Fluttershy. Smile

I've always wondered: How is the quality of the English subs that sometimes show up on Japanese discs? Are they ever taken from the official US releases or do the studios make their own translations?

I was never fully satisfied with the way the translations of the RK anime were handled by their American licensors (ADV being better than Media Blasters, IMO, but I still had some issues with both). The Viz manga did by far the best job in maintaining a good mix between loyalty to the spirit of the text/knowing when to leave terms untranslated and put it in the glossary, and maximizing readability of their character dialogue (by not attempting to do things like equate Kenshin's formal dialogue with stilted English).

I'm interested in seeing how they're going to do the translation for these BDs. I really would like the 4-episode OAVs, and if I find they have a translation better than what we've had available in the NA release, I'm open to importing it. Short of Viz picking up the blu-ray rights and doing the NA release, that's about as good a hope as I have.

Come to think of it, who has the rights to the RK stuff that ADV distributed? Does Section 23 have it? I ask because it seems like all those titles are out of print, so I'm wondering if their license lapsed.
