This is inaccurate. 076 is the area code for some areas of the Ishikawa prefecture, including Kanazawa, its capital city, which is where Hana-Saku Iroha is set. Ishikawa is neighboring Toyama. They both belong to the general region of Hokuriku. The area codes for all cities and districts in both Toyama and Ishikawa begin with 076-, but no area in Toyama has the 076 code. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_dialing_codes_in_Japan |

While a cute gimmick, this has essentially poisoned the number for any other use in the future. Certainly it couldn't be assigned as a home telephone number.

Tommy Tutone's song 867-5309/Jenny led to a lot of people dialing 867‒5309 and asking for "Jenny," to the dismay of homes who have that number. Now, a lot of area codes don't issue that number, and fictional phone numbers begin with 555. |
