Good god... why... Will fans just buy anything?
Then again those 3-D mouse pads and that Pretty Cure sheets tells me yes... they will... |

I love K-on as much as the next fan, but this is getting ridiculous. I swear this is like the fifth story about the show in the past week and in every case its popularity is crazy. I feel a new anime category should be named after this show.

I think you underestimate how expensive fancy rice is in Japan. http://www.amazon.co.jp/平成22年産-特選-新潟産コシヒカリ-白米-10Kg/dp/B003994MHG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=food-beverage&qid=1287728280&sr=1-2 That's like, the first listing for a bag of rice on amazon.co.jp, and it's 10 KG for 3880 yen. So this rice is only maybe 20% more than it would be without the K-on branding. Not really a scam at all. |

I'd be more concerned if I wasn't pretty sure Evangelion has beaten K-ON to the punch on almost every bit of merchandizing. Heck, if Asuka and Lilith-Rei take up a band in the fourth movie called "Dere/AIR," it'll ship gold. |

Imagine how much an Evangelion x K-ON spin-off would sell?

I think you have made a mistake with the units. The K-ON rice is only 3.5 kg for about the same price, so costs almost three times as much per kg as the rice you found. I wonder how many of the people who buy will actually cook and eat it, and how many will just save the unopened packages? |

Man, with that price I can actually buy a 10KG instead of 3.5KG (yes, in Japan), and I can still save 600yen from it... It's just not worth it... |

and if they really wanted to sell more, they could have hidden a special edition figure in each of the separate bags,

And don't forget that it's unwashed rice. By the time you wash it, too many grams of dust will be gone and you will have even less of what you already overpaid for. Just like frozen chicken. When I still owned a chicken factory we had a technique of filling the chicken with water before freezing until the interpol chased us out; I bet they're doing the same but with white powder instead. |

If they would give that blue-white-striped rice bowl as a extra, I would definitely buy it.
