1) Since when does a "one size fits all" truly fit your avg. overweight, beach-ball belly otaku? (Especially if these girls are wearing said 'one size fits all')

2) $75?! For that?! I'm in the wrong business. Apparently, fleecing the nerds of Japan is a license to print money. Wow.

Fans in Japan have already noted that the t-shirts essentially turn the wearers into miniature versions of the Gunmen robots from the Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann anime. Hiroyuki Imaishi directed both Panty
& Stocking and Gurren Lagann at Gainax.

does this paragraph sound straight from Sankaku to anyone else? I had to do double check what website I was on when I read that...

It was one thing when I bought my Yui shirt for 40 bucks. It's now another when it's a shirt only girls can wear, and it's 75 bucks!

Just think, for $5 more, one can actually own the first 3 episodes of the very series they can wear.

In two weeks, the limited edition shirts will come out and they'll be sized and contain a zipper!

It'll be interesting to get an update on this in about 6 months to know how many of these shirts actually sold at full retail price. I suspect they'll be on the markdown table in a matter of weeks.

$75 is pretty hefty when once can easily make one themselves for half that cost... with change leftover.

It occurred to me after watching the second episode of P&S that Gainax really had a stroke of marketing genius with this show. Like Gia said, P&S' art style would like right at home in an LA nightclub, so they can market items like this to the more casual elements of the fandom (and the average Asian otaku doesn't have a beach-ball belly, believe me).

Meanwhile, the few seconds per episode Gainax spends rendering P&S in their really cool alternate art style serves as the perfect advertising vehicle for future figures, without making the fans feel they've been screwed out of seeing a cooler-looking show because P&S' base style is seen as a big experiment (though evidently Gainax is putting a lot of effort into the animation department).

Gotta love it. Razz

$75 is a bit much but not out of line for boutique clothing though.

Wow @ picture in the article. Fashion is a funny thing. Haven't seen trapper keeper legging since I was 5 (1988).

I lol'd at the stereotype, but seriously this is Japan, And like the majority of otaku in Asia generally speaking, erm, the image just doesn't hold up even if a handful are like that; heck, it doesn't hold up anywhere else I've been to for that matter. In fact, Justin had mentioned this very fact in his report on the Singaporean convention.

Here on the other hand... no need to be an otaku to fit that stereotype Razz

And don't forget, one-size-fits-all works the other way around too:
