It is an excellent movie. They've taken out all the tedious, repetitive and unfunny parts, and concentrated on the personality clash between Negishi and Krauser.
Matsuyama is excellent in the double role, and the big finish is great, Simmons and Matsuyama shouting F**K at each other!

The manager is also brilliant.

Much better buy than the anime, in my opinion!

Sweet, saw this advertised at SDCC. Love the anime, and the manga is pretty good (the first four volumes, anyway). Added to my Netflix queue!

I thought the film was disjointed and directionless and simplified Negashi's simultaneous repulsion and attraction to the Krauser persona to a whiny series of complaints about how much he hates being Krauser.

Also, while Negashi is supposed to be a dork, the portrayal here takes it so far it's tedious. Does he have to walk like that?

I'd much prefer that the anime be licensed.

I just watched the movie and I agree with Fronzel. It had amusing parts, but overall it was a disappointment. The writing lacked strength, and the acting was either tolerable or just plain bad: Negishi wasn't dorky, he was like a drooling, whiny idiot, and the record company's president was downright painful to watch. And while Matsuyama's portrayal of Krauser was pretty good, his voice wasn't always convincing. The anime had the right idea with casting different actors for Negishi and Krauser, Ueda Yuuji had a growl that can be expected from a "metal monster."

Not to mention that they made the whole thing more "family friendly" and took out the most outrageously stupid things like the Capitalist Pig. (Let alone stuff like the rape of Tokyo Tower... that had me in stitches.)
