I'm a little worried about Todd slipping back into his Keroro voice in Hetalia, but hopefully the addition of an Italian accent will spruce it up enough to keep it sounding fresh.

You might want to give BttDB at least one more episode, Erin. I, too, was lulled almost into a stupor by the first half of the series, but episode 7 was the point where it finally caught my attention. Granted, it doesn't get fantastically better, but there is a definite level of improvement from that point on as the story gets more complicated.

So glad you brought up the Haberkorn basically going the Keroro route for Nagasumi. Not that I think it's a bad voice, it's just that, like, after watching the Sgt. Frog dub for four boxsets, you just like "this is freaking Keroro."
Actually a few of the voices are a lot like Sgt. Frog's dub. Momoka's VA is still playing the "nice one side, dangerous dark side" role with Maki, Natsumi's VA is playing the twin hair-style bitchy type with a (somewhat?) heart of gold with Lunar and Christopher Sabat is Christopher Sabat. It got to the point where the other guy I run my anime club with said if you weren't actually looking at the screen, you'd probably think this was the dub for Sgt. Frog. But again, not necessarily a bad thing. Just a noticeable thing. (I want the time machine to take me to whoever invented the first "knock over the wall to the male/female bath at the hot springs" cliche) |

Blaming Akamatsu for the "deserted island just off shore" trope is unfair. This was started in Macross where Minmei and Hikaru are stranded inches of steel away from New Macross City.
Besides, if you killed Akamatsu, I'd have to go back in time to stop you from killing him to save Negima and would probably set off a mass exodus of anime fans to the past to kill/save Akamatsu and we'd have a population crisis on our hands. Lets not do that. |

My Bride is a Mermaid (SnH is easier) is one of my favourite anime comedies, and I think it's right up there with School Rumble. Like School Rumble the comedy is primarily generated by the wackiness of the character's interaction (and ridiculous premise.) But unlike School Rumble where most of the cast is around in the first few eps, it takes a cour and a half for SnH to finish introducing the main cast. So it's a bit slow at first, but the the funnies build up.
I actually find the early Lunar centered episodes to be kinda boring, but once Kai is introduced things start working better. One of the episodes in the second cour, which uses a dating sim for it's seed, is one of my top 3 funniest anime episodes ever. If you like screwball comedy and those first few episodes don't kill you, you should like Seto. I hope the second set comes out quick. Has it been announced yet? |

I'm also in my early 30s, and I feel that most of the people I used to go to cons with 10 years ago have moved on with their lives. To me fans are skewing younger. I'm sure most people at cons these days probably didn't get hooked on Bubblegum Crisis, Ranma, or Robotech...judging from what I see, their most likely gateway animes are shows like Naruto or Bleach. Also, I think that there's a lot of turnover which leads to people at cons looking perpetually young. Knowing internet memes may keep you young, but maybe just being around young people helps too.

Jeez, make up your mind. Either you found My Bride is a Mermaid funny or you didn't. Additionally, your review doesn't explain why you thought it was a Rental rather than a Perishable. After all, the tone of the review was leaning more towards the latter, given that you said you were "done" with it. No-one should ever spend money on a show that they don't want to finish, even if they were just renting it. And no-one should ever bother with a work of comedy that they don't find funny. |

That's probably the dumbest comment I've heard in awhile. That collection is a good start, not overkill. Somehow I doubt she's spending the rent money (or mortgage, whatever) on her DVDs and manga, so I don't see the problem. |

Huh, why? It stacks up over the years and it's hard not to have a some sort of emotional attachment to a collection. She probably grew up with those series and now shares them with others. I think that's cool. |

*ahem* Those are MY shelves, and I don't feel they are overkill at all. Dare I ask how many hundreds of gigs of illegally downloaded anime and scanlations you have? How is it overkill to actually BUY the series you like instead of just downloading it? I actually support the industry by BUYING anime and manga, instead of just pirating it. Plus, as I stated in my description, I lend all my stuff out to teens who can't afford to buy a lot of it. I have over 30 teens in my anime club, and all of them love to borrow new anime and manga from me. The things we watch in Club stay on my shelves because I buy them for the kids to watch in big groups. It gives me joy to share the various series I love with new fans. Boo on you. Yea on my shelves being posted! |

I'm glad to see I'm not alone in this. I think the show has it moments especially later in the series, but it really does try a bit too hard for its own good. It gets a little better though so I'm glad it was in rental column as it deserves at least that. |
