Nice. This was one of the shows I've been following this spring. There's nothing particularly special about it, but I've been kind of digging it. Chizuru is pretty kawaii, and I used to chuckle in the early episodes when all the dudes were assuring her that they were prepared to kill her at any time, while of course actually being very sweet to her.

If the real Kondo Isami, Hijikata Toshizo, Okita Soji and other shinsengumi samurai would saw this anime, i'm sure, they'd immediately kill all it's creators and then perform seppuku to rid themselves from the shame!

Yes! I love this anime! I was hoping they would do a second season but all the way in the fall... I'm going to die waiting for it.

And Saito would thank the anime for making him into a bishi. His real photo is not that great.
Hooray for Season 2!

Epic reply!
On topic, I did suspect they'd make a second season. The first so far has been kind of unfulfilling. I can't really justify why I'm watching this anime or enjoying it, but I do, it's quite intriguing. I'm looking forward to it

Chizuru may be the most annoying, useless reverse harem protagonist since Miaka, the Shinsengumi are poorly developed as characters, and I don't care for the supernatural elements. Still, I'll be watching for the eye candy. I'm shallow, I guess.

I totally agree. I've really enjoyed this anime but thought 12 episodes were just too short and would leave many loose ends. I'm so happy there is going to be a second season!

If 12 episodes were too short that's because they keep discussing their plans for 19 minutes and then when the time comes they deal with it in 3 minutes. What do I know after 10 episodes? Not much. At least enough to be covered by a single episode. Well, I suppose that's also one of the lines drawn between good, and decent anime.
But despite the bland main character and the shallow cast, it's still rather enjoyable (at least the art is really good). Up to this point I still don't care about any of them, so here hoping they will do something about it before season 2.
Oh, well, if I had to pick a favorite that would be Keisuke's personality and Chizuru's body. Oh, I think I've created a chimera.

Eh, Hakuouki is by no means the best thing I've seen recently but it's okay. There are certainly worse things that could be given a second season.

2nd Season. I was wondering how they were going to handle the Boshin War. I guess this means they won't have to do something awkward like cram it all into one episode.

There's no mystery to why I like it. Because of another awesome manga/anime, I've had a romanticized view of the Shinsengumi. Peacemaker was a disappointment, but this gives me precisely what I've wanted to see in a Shinsengumi adaptation. Saito, Okita, and Nagakura are awesome! I kinda wish that we'd see the three cross swords with a young, red-headed, cross shaped scar-faced assassin working for the Ishin Shishi.

They almost had to do a second season. I've watched up to ep 11 in subs, and nearly all the loose ends were still unresolved. So, this is good news, but still, I would have liked more of the plot to have been played out in this first season.
Given where season 1 is ending in the Shinsengumi historical plotline, it looks like we'll be seeing them in their Western-style uniforms soon. I'll miss the kimonos and sky-blue haori coats.
