OK, interest suddenly plummeting. Gonzo and Murata are what drew me to this in the first place all that time ago and now... it's just another anime I know little about.

I'll be interested in seeing how many people stop caring about this now that they know the characters won't look a certain way. Who cares about plot or character development in anime, anyways?! It's all about trendy designs and name recognition~

Damn. No Range Murata, but at least GONZO will not be involved. I'll still be checking this out regardless.

FWIW, the first three books of this did win the Japan SF Grand Prix for its year. Not that I've read 'em; I'm just tossing out a lifeline to anyone desperate to stay interested
The award is given out to the work that a committee of about six authors thinks is the best work of SF in Japan each year. The winner is usually a novel (often a huge, multi-volume monster of a novel), but anime (Evangelion, Innocence, and Dennou Coil), manga ("Domu," by Katsuhiro Otomo and "Barbara Ikai" by Moto Hagio), a live action movie (Gamera 2), and even a couple of nonfiction books (one on SF history, and a biography of Shin'ichi Hoshi) have also won the prize over the years.

I think this is a little unfair imo. If you are fond of Muratas' work as an artist, its only logical/natural that you would be somewhat disappointed that he won't participate in the project.
Having said that, Murata is not the only artist out there, nor is Mardock Scramble his pet project. Also, however good or bad the char designs may be, scripting, direction and animation q will always be the determining factors for most viewers.
Its also impossible to judge a show or a movie in advance, just by looking who participates in making it (although, according to your preferences, you can try to guess a bit about it).
So, lets see how it unfolds...

I'm hoping for ufotable.
Shame about Murata. Happy about GONZO.
