Asano didn't call the chapters "tracks," but rather "programs." For some reason, VIZ just decided to change it. They probably thought the Ghost World-like covers weren't hip enough.

I rather liked the supernatural elements, and actually didn't find them that off-key - after all, volume one had the chapter with the shinigami/crow, and if you look, there's a crow in nearly every chapter.

To be honest, I interpreted the chapter (in volume 1) "Syrup" as the spoiler[origination of the crow shinigami - after Syrup falls, the crow is shown flying off.] Of course, over-analyzing literature is my occupational hazard, but that would make the emphasis on the supernatural in volume 2 make more sense. (More or less.)

Just finished reading this today. So good.

I'm mortified to see that only two people besides me care about this

I'm guessing there are plenty of people who, like me, have read and enjoyed the books but didn't have anything much to add to the review.
